For Sale: Audiolab 8200CDQ in Black

Does this need an introduction? It's a multi-award winning CD Player/DAC/Pre-Amp/Headphone Amp with a clock locked CD transport, asynchronous USB, 2 x coax, 2 x optical, balanced and unbalanced outputs, high quality headphone output, ESS Sabre ES9018 DAC chips, 32-bit digital volume control and/or digitally controlled analogue stepped attenuator volume control, seven selectable digital filters, three analogue inputs for tuners, tape decks, etc.

It is just over 3 years old. I have owned it from new. As you can see from the photos below , it is in virtually mint condition excusing the odd fleck of dust. It comes with the original box, user manual, remote control and a mains cable.

This is a cracking buy but it's even better if you want to actually spin physical CDs rather than using the DAC function because this player has only played half a dozen physical CDs maximum since new so the transport is virtually unused. The clock locking eliminates jitter and means that this machine sounds as good spinning CDs as it does on asynchronous USB.

The door flap has broken on one optical input. It still works and the optical plug still stays in. I still have the flap and spring which I will include. Not sure if it can be mended or replaced but it seems to be cosmetic anyway.

The original transformer was replaced with the upgraded one at 18 months.

Selling due to upgrade.

£500 collected from Glastonbury.

Next day insured UK delivery will be about £36.20 unless you can do better or are prepared to take the risk of having it sent uninsured. How the couriers arrive at this crazy pricing I do not know.

Why was the transformer replaced please? Were the other upgrades completed at the same time (capacitors and display)
Thanks

The original transformer failed. No other upgrades were done.

In response to comments on other forums:

I think I've priced it fairly. They mostly seem to go for more than rather than less than this price.

Even after 3 years since its introduction, it is still the top dog at this price point. Stunning sound. Never gets confused. You can pick out any instrument in a mix and follow it. Yet it never loses the musical whole. Timing and transient detail are excellent with the Optimal Transient filters.

Never was this more apparent than when I had the Croft Integrated and Zu Druids. Amazing transparency and realism. Same went for the Bel Canto eVo 200.2 driving the Zu's and using the balanced outputs. It sounded just like real musicians playing real live instruments.

Plugging the Beyerdynamic T1's straight into the CDQ gets very close to the sound I had with the Zu's.

If you're a disc spinner, this is a much better bet than a transport + MDAC because of the clock-locking between transport and DAC within the CDQ.

A number of people are pointing out a CDQ on ebay from Lintone Audio which is ostensibly 'new' at only £549. Note the non-OLED display. It is clearly an old unit, probably ex-dem, although it does come with a full warranty so the price is a fair one. To all those who have spotted this, I suggest you buy it.

A few have asked about the display on my unit. I thought it was obvious from the photos that it is the original non-OLED version. Personally I prefer it to the OLED display.

On the subject of delivery, IT COSTS EXTRA.

My car consumes petrol at the rate of 15 pence per mile so for the cost of an insured courier I could (and in fact would) deliver it myself to a buyer 120 miles away. If you live closer I can obviously do it for less.

To those who are putting in low-ball offers and expecting delivery to be included, it's not gonna happen.

There are many more places yet that I can advertise this and be sure of interest and I am in no hurry as I won't have the new DAC for at least another month anyway (although the CDQ is of course available immediately to anyone who wants to buy it).

Thank you all for your interest.
