Rega RP1 skipping

Hi AOS'ers,

I have just bought a new RP1 and right out of the box it skips, depending on the anti skate it either jumps forward or drags back. I can't seen to get the balance right. Is there something I am doing wrong. The shop has said I can take it back but I can't get there until Wednesday, and I would like to try to get it figured out before then.

Any help would be much appreciated.

When you say "get the balance right" do you mean tracking weight ? Because that is pre-determined with the fitted Rega Carbon cartridge. Just slide the counterweight up to the stop and job done.

Bias is set by pulling out the control for around 2/3 the tracking weight.

If this fails and it occurs at the same point on more than one disc, it might be a fault, so take the TT back for a replacement.

Sorry, I meant can't get the balance of the anti-skate right. I have pushed the weight right to the stopper as recommended. It skips on all records at any point on the vinyl, except for one human league 12 that plays all the way through every time.

I shall definitely take it back but was holding out hope it could be something I was doing wrong.

Have you checked that the headshell wires are not touching the record and that the cue platform is not interfering with the arm when playing ?

I cannot thank you enough, the headshell wires were making contact with the record. I would never have thought to look for that.

The mystery remains however........ Why did it play the Human League OK and not the others? I suspect some kind of built in taste filter, either good or bad depending on your point of view :laugh:

Them was the days when EVERY Rega turntable dealers sold was set up with cartridge in front of the customer (in my case) and checked carefully before being taken home, almost never to be seen again! Too many 'dealers' for this brand just sell sealed boxes now and it's such a shame IMO! :(

Them were the days when EVERY Rega deck we sold was set up by me BEFORE it left the shop and usually in front of the customer! :(

It had the performance kit fitted in shop, they were apologetic and said bring it back, but I couldn't wait until Wednesday, all sorted now thankfully :)
