View Full Version : Need Help for Esoteric setup
Hi
I have a noob question.
I have an esoteric D02, P02 & G01.
From G01 to D02 & P02 I have to connect BNC cable 50ohms for the 10MHz out. but 50 ohms cable is not available from any audio cable companies and also esoteric has stopped the 8N A2000 cable.
so can I use 50 ohms cables from others like agilent/Amphenol. what should I look for when I buy these cables, like any grade etc.
esoteric owners pls let me know which cable you use.
any other suggestions welcome.
Regards!
Venkat

Hi Venkat,
Yes any 50 ohm cable like you suggested would be suitable for the clock link at 10MHz.
Cheers,
Alan
Hi Alan
Thanks for the info. is it ok if I use 75ohms cable? audio cable companies like siltech have 75ohms bnc cables. what is the difference between 50ohms & 75ohms in terms of practical usage and signal quality/strength?
Regards!

There are loads of 50Ohm BNC cables on eBay. This is not a cable that you need to worry about like, say, RCA interconnects. You do want to match the recommended impedance to prevent signal reflections... So, RG-58 cable & 50Ohm BNC are the perfect technical match for your needs. And to be honest, "audiophile" stuff would probably mess things up more, what is more important is using the correct impedance-matched cable.

Hi
Thanks a lot. You guys cleared my confusion. Will go ahead and match the impedance without worrying about the "audiophile" aspect.
