I'm Jeremy Marchant, originally a Londoner, now from SW England.

I am a business coach and trainer specialising, with my business partner, in emotional intelligence. (Company name is emotional intelligence at work. It's a pun.)

I have a second career as a music editor, preparing music scores for performance and I've worked on scores for Gavin Bryars, Michael Nyman, Joby Talbot, Param Vir and many others. In particular, I've recently completed the huge vocal score of Havergal Brian's Gothic symphony, set for performance in Brisbane in December 09.

And a related career as a composer and arranger, eg of Philip Glass's Songs from liquid days (available from your favourite record store). The arrangement was perceptively described by Billboard as "exciting".

I have had a Linn/Naim system for thirty years, though none of the original boxes remain in my main system. I've upgraded enough to run two further systems out of castoffs.

Hi Jeremy Marchant Welcome to AOS

Wow what an interesting profile, there is no doubts lots you can bring to the forum.

Just out of interest did you and your wife appear on a TV property show once ? I can't remember if it was Fantasy homes by the sea, Escape to the country or similar but your name and profile seem to fit a couple I once saw on one of those shows, and they had good audio gear but it wasn't on screen much.

When your not making music, what kind of music do you listen to to relax?

My main musical tastes are 1918 to the present day - what most people would call 'classical'. I was lucky in the 70s and 80s to have a relatively high disposable income and I would buy LPs purely on spec, based on the comments of reviewers that I trusted. It wasn't necessary for the music to be "beautiful", or even that I liked it - it only had to be interesting.

My particular likes include Scandinavian music, starting with Sibelius and Nielsen, of course, but extending to a wide range of other composers. I am a specialist on the music of Karlheinz Stockhausen - multifaceted and controversial - whilst on the other hand enjoying the early music of minimalist composers like Reich and Glass.

But I listen to a wide variety of music. I'm currently playing all 106 Haydn symphonies - one per listening session - and exploring the songs of Schubert. In fact, I'm very interested in songs and happily listen to anyone from Mary Chapin Carpenter to Procol Harum more, to be honest, than Schubert or Schumann.

I must also put in a plug for the great Claudio Monteverdi, composer of superlative - and gorgeously enjoyable - music a century before Bach.

I used to sing in Crouch End Festival Chorus - they got a lot better after I left - and thanks to the imagination (and sometime bravery) of its music director David Temple was able to sing in lots of C20 scores. I really do suggest people who don't play instruments join a choir - a big one where you can hide, if necessary!

[I regret that I have yet to make my debut on property tv, though I used to be a disc jockey on college radio. It was a bugger cueing those 78s.]
