Here i find myself moaning once again!
What is wrong with LP's releases these days? i find myself constantly returning records because they are totally& utterly unsatisfactory.
Example: Tonight i have just played what maybe my six or seventh copy of the present Pink Floyd 'Wish You Were Here' Re-issue! I am seriously struggling with the decision to move away from Records completely as believe me it is so much hard work trying to get new records im completely happy with, it can take anything upto a month after all the sending back & re ordering, time & patience im quickly running out of!
Back to the Floyd LP.. After overcoming three copies that all arrived with damaged covers {No fault of the manufacturer} i was then faced with copies that were warped, one that was off centre & one that had clicks & pops like it was ten years old & tonight again a warped record.
If that is not enough every one had all the same common fault, there seems to be what sounds like a drop out near the end of ''Welcome To The Machine'', ive checked all my Tone-arm geometry etc even tried it on another TT it is deffo there. Can anyone else detect this or i going mad?
However it's obviously going back for one more try & this is the deciding factor to me staying with records or not.
Bloody pathetic, makes my blood boil..Im actually getting to the stage that im going to walk away from music completely, im so disheartened by it all. Forget CD's &Files i would rather go without if need be..
Anyone else getting gradually driven crackerz?

At a guess the LP era is near its end with the larger record companies, so maybe not as much care is given with the product. The heyday was I think Sheffield's Direct to Disc, and other efforts by firms like Mobile Fidelity to improve the recording medium.
Moving forward, the CD format is very good, and SACD slightly better particularly when used with companding.
Hi! Just out of curiosity i have now played my different issues of Wish..
Started with the reissue from 2011, preordered so i assume i've got an early copy.
This sounds really nice with regards to the vinyl quality, dead silent run in/out. The remastering has not enhanced the musical experience imo but the sound is a bit more modern.
Okay, on to the UK 1st pressing! (Yes, i actually have one of those, with the quirky innes sleeve and all...) This issue sounds very nice, but the vinyl is either a little worn, or perhaps of a lesser quality. (Not crackly or with pops, but more like a slight hiss, even and not disturbing)
The sounds are a bit on the lighter side, but everything in the mix is easier to hear and follow. Gilmours guitar, the odd syntheziser effects swirling about and thikngs like that. And there is bass, where needed, just a lot more defined and not so "tubby".
And now spinning, the German pressing (1C 062-96 918). Better quality vinyl than the UK issue, very quiet and clean. The audio however loses something, sounds really nice but all the little edges and details have been "filed off". Not as easy to make out the lyrics at all parts or what they're saying at the party in the end. All in all, a nice pressing though. (I could call it a little more polite than the 1st issue)
Anyhoots, i was not able to detect any "dropouts" in the end of Welcome... Where in the song are you referring to André?
Is it in the last chorus, or where Rick Wright goes bananas on the keyboards or in the "doors to the party being manouvered"-part?
Did you hear the "plop" in the left channel at the very end by the way? Havent noticed this before! :)

Andre,
I am having the same issues with quite a few new LP,s. It is very frustrating!! I have sent back a few but now I am a bit more choosy over the source of my records and who presses them and supplies them. I cannot recommend MOV enough - not had one bad record off them and superb quality.
Can any folk on AOS recommend other reliable source for quality pressed vinyl?
I also find strangely enough, although others may disagree, old vinyl via Discogs or carefully selected from car boot/market stalls has come up with some very good stuff. Some of the older mint Discogs vinyl has been so quiet and well pressed I feel this is definitely a route to take, especially as most of the older vinyl is pure analogue recording and production.:)
*oops*
Just discovered another issue of Wish... :) I obviously also have a strange issue on blue vinyl, which is labeled "Airplay only".
And to be honest, this has got some really nice qualities. Great slam and punch paired with good quality vinyl makes for a nice addition to the collection. Sounds mostly like the German issue but with better slam.
It's claimed to be an American issue, Limited Edt 30AP 1875-01 issued by CBS/Sony/Capitol in 1995?!?!
Still no dropouts though.. ;)
Edit: Found a similar issue on discogs, and they claim it was released in 2003 which is quite possible. There are a lot of misprints everywhere on this one..
