Having spent a good while lurking I thought it about time I joined in.
Having spent too much money on cars and put the kids through university I decided it was time to improve my hifi after a hiatus of about 20 years. Out went the Cyrus dad7 cd player (still working!) and the Linn integrated amp and speakers. In came a Cyrus streamer with preamp (the convenience makes listening to music so easy) then some Lumley ref 120 power amps; and a pair of Coincident Total Eclipse speakers (from the same owner as the Lumleys so I knew they worked well together).
Latest acquisition is a EAR 864 preamp from the dealer ads on AoS (My thanks to Mr. C aka Coherent Systems, who delivered the 864 a couple of days after we agreed a deal.)
My return to listening to music was started by my son, who had got into buying records; with no means of playing them! He had my old Technics direct drive deck and NAD 3020 (both still working fine after many years in the loft) and a pair of Q Acoustics 2010's . A new cartridge replaced the original.
I still have my record collection; not massive, but with some oddball records that don't seem readily available digitally; so a turntable may be next. Especially as the 864 supposedly has a decent phono stage.
Luckily the Mrs likes listening to music through a decent set-up, so is happy to have the larger than average speakers and more valves than a 1940's computer.....and even tolerates the expenditure!
