Hi to all the Admin and Mods team,
Sincere greetings in peace and friendship ! It's that maverick and bolshy Yorkshire man here again !
It's been a while since anyone posted on this thread after the last 'blasts' from the Admin team and I didn't want anybody to think that that had silenced us all !!
In the past I have described this forum as your personal fiefdom with you having a perfect right to run it as you see fit and I don't withdraw any of it. I thought for a while whether I wanted to continue as a member because that fact came as a bit of a shock to me - naive aren't I ? . I realised after a while that the problem was with me and not with the forum and so you still have the dubious pleasure of my participation .
However, if I am going to continue the habit of posting and occassionally ruffling feathers, I would like to know whose feathers I am ruffling. This is the first organisation of which I have been a part in which I have no idea of the hierarchy, so can someone please explain to me what are the different responsibilities and/or ranks of the Moderators, Administrators and Super Moderators .
Cheers,

Hi Dave

This Link gives you a break down of the leaders of the forum http://theartofsound.net/forum/showgroups.php, and all our responsibilities areas of special interest etc.

Mods such as myself have a certain level of responsibility and ability to carry it through. Super Mods have the next level which covers all areas of the forum and much greater ability to do the work(use the software). Admin have the highest level of responsibility having day to day running of the PC side of things (nuts and bolts)as well as moderating the forum etc....basically there is nothing they can't do with the software that the forum runs on.

As well as these activities we are all enthusiasts and are expected, encouraged to create threads and add to others by regular posting...if we can help offer comments etc. Unlike other forums we are not the lofty capricious gods of Greek mythology standing aloof, but get stuck in with the grass roots members to help, encourage, challenge, and keep things in order if it sadly goes off on one (something none of us like to see happen). However there is a spirit/ethos here, and the forum owners have a vision which sadly not everyone will agree with or want to abide by/take part in. We would love everyone to fit in, but sadly that isn't going to be the case. We are all different and some will come and go and maybe come back again. We realise that AOS is fairly unique in what it is and while we who run AOS will always rise to the challenges and suggestions that are made there will be times when we wont agree and the owners will not want to make changes. Thats just part of forum life.

Dave you can challenge or as you put it
However, if I am going to continue the habit of posting and occassionally ruffling feathers, I would like to know whose feathers I am ruffling. anyone you like....all we ask is it is constructive, conducted in a friendly and respectful way (something you have always done). You haven't been here that long but have brought something nice and honest to the forum, you are not afraid to ask questions and you have an open mind all great/positive qualities:). I for one would be very sad to see you leave :(....so please don't. You are a valued member and all of your 269 posts (number at the time I wrote this)have been fun to read, challenging and have reminded many of us old timers of those unique special insights we had when we first got into audio. Your discovery of soundstage depth, width and height is a particular moment in your time here I will look fondly at, and cherish; because it is these moments/discoveries that make all the many hours of our time put into AOS so worth while. It is worth remembering that all of those behind the scenes don't get paid by the forum, and in fact it costs the owners money(not a huge amount) to keep it up and running each year.

If any of my colleagues wish to add anything to the above feel free.

Regards Neil

Dave - you're not thinking of leaving are you? :(

Well you can't - we need your challenging posts to provide sources of discussion/debate! :eyebrows:

Don't even think about it - anyway we know where you live. :smoking:

Of course he's not thinking of leaving... Did you guys miss this bit:

....basically there is nothing they can't do with the software that the forum runs on.

 I thought it might be worth clarifying that there are limits to what we can do with the forum software. It is configurable in a number of ways, but it's not completely open, especially if you only want to use stable, authorised code, that won't break when you upgrade!

So we can't work miracles, but we do try our best!

Awwwww!, Thanks for the kind thoughts guys - it's nice to feel wanted - OK, I'll stay a bit longer if you insist. :lolsign: . Particularly as I now have an understanding of how it all works/fits together.
Stand by for ocassional more posts 'out of left field' as they say.
Note to authority: -
I can play devils advocate or exagerate (slightly maybe ;)) to get a discussion going but it will always be done with a smile on my face and I'll always try to make it obvious that's what I'm doing.
Cheers,

Marco

Hi Marco,
What with the above and your persistant introduction of the subject of 'shlinky dreshes' into almost any posting on the slightest of pretexts, or even no pretext at all, is there anything that you want to tell us? Come out of that dark closet and into the light, it's much brighter out here ! :lolsign:
We're waiting .....
Cheers,

Responsibilities

Administrators

Me - my name is above the door (both in terms of the domain and VBulletin software license) which means that I'm the one liable for anything naughty said on the forum. I probably don't contribute as much as I should though given my working pattern.

Marco - is essentially the main dude here . He's the one who is around most to contribute, keep discussions going, put his point of view across robustly and keep the place running smoothly. He does this job extremely well. :)

Nick/Beechwoods - is newly-appointed to the role of Third Administrator previously occuped by Rob/Filterlab. The Third Administrator looks after the layout of the forum as well as performing all other moderator duties.

Rob/Filterlab - is the former #3 but keeps his moderator controls on an honorary basis.

Supermoderators

These have full moderation powers throughout the forum and can ban people as well as lock/move/edit/delete threads, edit/delete/move posts. They can't alter the forum layout. Permanent or indefinite bans usually require approval from at least 2/3 of the Administrators, although Supermoderators can zap spammers.

Moderators

These have limited moderation powers, perhaps only in certain areas of the forum. They cannot ban people but can lock/move/edit/delete threads, edit/delete/move posts.

All of us above have access to a secret chamber here :eyebrows: where we make decisions as a committee.

Really? Can they fix it so that England win the next for Test matches then?

Hi Guys,
Have you inadvertently let us all into one of the secrets of what goes on behind that little door between Marco's speakers?
