I currently run a Luxman PD 264, would the Denon DP60 offer much of an upgrade?

I had a Luxman dd turntable - probably a 264, I bought one because they look so darn pretty! - but I have to confess to not being very impressed at all with it in terms of sound quality. The sound was ill-defined, wimpy and wishy-washy compared to the competition. Sorry to be blunt, but better to be honest!

I've also had a Denon DP-62L. The Denon was better by quite a margin, imo.

Better still, get a Technics from the SL1300-1900 series, usually available for around a £100 or a SL1200 for a bit more. Much better sounding tts than either Luxman or Denon, imho.
Direct drive Sony and JVC can also be very good, ime, and can be more in line looks-wise with the Luxman and Denon, if that is a concern.

I don’t doubt what you say about the SQ of the Luxman turntables, but as regards the cosmetics, the PD131 was in my opinion one of the most beautiful and elegant looking designs ever made.

Yes, most of the Luxman turntables are lovely to look at.

I think the 264 looks great, too - simple but elegant.

Shame about the sound quality!
