Since loosing my job in Feb i thought it best i opt for a different kind of job, i found another job but no way on earth will i be staying in it any longer than i can help it.

Anyway i start an IT course Monday. What is to be expected on the course & what are the job possibilities these days? Anyone do IT as a job?

Always jobs going in IT. I did an HND in computer studies back in '92 but I expect things have moved on just a bit since then ;). We had to do an exam in Boolean Algebra, I bet they don't have that any more :) A couple of people I did that course with got jobs doing desktop support, 20 years on they are both on six figure salaries. They really enjoyed working with computers but I found it a bit boring so never pursued it as a career. Probabaly a bit daft of me in retrospect.

Certain IT positions don't carry the money they used to because the market became flooded with new recruits. Back in the late 90's MCSE's could earn good money, but that's not the case these days.

Good luck with it Andre.
I hope they'll ask you questions on one of your many 'specialist subjects', but without the spotlight in your eyes!

Thanks chaps, interview went well i just have to wait till Monday for a Phone call....

What made it easier & guarentees me more of a Chance is that the interview were not for one job but what i can make out over 60 positions.. My past jobs on my CV worked out really well, probably the reason i was short listed for interview.. ofc i had to totter off to the pub celebrating pre-result drinkies

that's quite a wide ranging topic. I am in Software Testing which comes both under IT and Business Analysis (at times). Being in the IT industry it;s good to go for something specialised if you can. If you are starting, try desktop support, then take a few courses and get certification. the MSCE courses are really decent and also not that difficult if you put the time and effort in (real life depending time/apathy etc.)

Also it depends on which part of the country you wish to work in.. I see you;re south yorkshire, I know Leeds isn;t SY but currently the market for contractor and IT certified positions is better these days. good luck! and remember to ask your users "did you try turning it off then back on again :0 :) :)"

Cheers Chaps. I really don't understand why people say they can't get a job, i think it's because they don't want one tbh.. 2 Day induction next week & then on the job week after..

nay there is no buying myself anything, no I don't know how we are going to get by
, not enough hours, but I refuse to live on the dole.. if we cannot get buy I don't know what to do without falling in debt but this is the story of my life.
Quite frankly I cannot wait for the day I dra
w my pension..I'm just frightened of falling into depression again.

I think broadband & Sky TV is gonna have Togo.

There is enough on Freeview these days to keep me entertained so I haven't had Sky since about 2001.
As for the future: think out of the box as far as an achievable solution is concerned. I had to do just that after being made redundant in 2005. I decided to use my various bits of knowledge and experience to come up with something that I would enjoy doing, whilst making a living from it. And I am sure many others on AoS have followed a similar method. You mention your experience in various areas. Well see which ones you can throw into a mix and come up with something that has at least one USP (Unique Selling Point). My next door neighbour got laid off at age 61 on the railways. He started trading in cars, clogging up our road. He can't even drive and often called me to move cars for him! But within five years he had made his first £1million. Another neighbour who was laid off from the railways at the same time is still living in a council flat and struggling to get by. So it is still possible to achieve a positive outcome if you think outside the box whilst the braincells are in good shape.

I did {Nearly}get off the ground selling bespoke Turntable surrounds for Thorens 'TD150'/'160' years ago, i got a plan worked out, thought up the perfect company name with equally as perfect names for the plinths, i even got the orders but lack of somewhere to make them killed it, rent on buildings were more than our place costs, i refuse to use Veneers & the price of solid Hardwood was high.. It was to be 100% High quality venture..

This was well before everyone started making plinths & surrounds for old TT's.. However tbh im hardly cut out for buisness..
