Crackorama's system.

I was invited to Crackorama's gaff last night to hear his mostly vintage system. He is a very naughty boy. He is responsible for me selling a lot of my high end hifi and using good quality vintage stuff instead with better results.
Crackorama's system comprises a rather tasty Yamaha CR620 receiver he bought from the bay of E, a totally rebuilt and re-capped Denon PMA850 amp, a beautiful Goldring Lenco c/w Linn Basik plus/Goldring 1042, an Arcam Alpha 5 bought for ten quid not working and the jewel in the crown his Akai GX 255 reel to reel tape recorder. The Akai has been totally re-capped and calibrated. Ruark Paladin speakers.

Playing through Ruark Paladin speakers this is one hell of a sounding system. A lot of work has gone into restoration and tweaking though it all paid off. IC's are Atlas and speaker cable Tellurium Q blue. Damn his eyes though as this is the gentleman who introduced me to the virtues of the Lenco and now i am smitten by that bloody reel to reel. It just sounds so right. I want one!

Great system, I nearly went down the Lenco route before I bought my VPI.

Reel to reel coming back next year as a Swiss manufacture going to start making them again- don't know which one though?

Yes the Paladins have been star performers at the NEBOs IMO, quality speakers.
Hey love the R2R as well but then you know I have a fetish about them LOL!

Pretty true of most Ruark's though the last version of the Tailsman, the 3 could be a tad bright in the wrong system.

Dave the Denon PMA850 is fantastic now it has been carefully restored , great phono stage. I use the 850 for listening to my vinyl and the Yamaha for recording live stuff
from fm radio broadcasts . I would say the Denon comes out on top but love the Yamaha for radio.:)

Absolutely loving the Ruark speakers. I borrowed a pair from a dealer many years back but bought Castle Harlech's in preference because they were a tad better suited to my room. The Ruark's were just too big for such a dainty sized room.
