Of course you can never tell where or when with lightning so some nice images on this thread capturing nature at work.

To stop the annual replacement of AM transmitters in North West Western Australia, I researched and proposed deep grounding as the least costly and most effective way of protecting transmission assets. We engaged water boring machinery and went down 20 meters with one hole and 25 meters with another. Dropped into each hole was copper rod and graphite powder mixed up like a concrete slurry running back to equipment chassis were copper bars. Better still would have been stainless steel, but following that there was no further replacement of transmitters required. Out there the whole sky would light up with lightning like for a second it was daytime, and heavy lightning is typical for 4 months of the year. Assisted by average temperature of 42 centigrade, and massive rainfall resulting in floods.

Deep grounding to these depths of your hifi equipment is not a proposition to entertain, however if in doubt about your house grounding seek the advice firstly of your electrician. :)
