getting mixed messages about the use of the Sound Dead steel turntable mat (thingy). Which is the correct way to use it? Do you place the record directly upon the SDS mat or do you place the sds mat beneath a rubber ot felt mat? Please advise.:)

Had an SDS isoplatmat on the original Techy platter and a Herbie's on top. Did sound very good! I think the SDS damps the platter (very effective!) and a mat on top provides the interface with the record.

I play my vinyl directly on top of the IsoPlatMat, the mat needs a direct contact with the platter as it needs direct contact to remove the vibrational energy in the platter. A soft mat can be used on top to provide a softer interface with the record. Most users of the mat experiment with a mat underneath and on top and settle on the way I use mine.
