Used as a music server playing hi-def & MP3 files from an external HD to a Music Fidelity V90DAC using Foobar2000. No fans, so super silent operation. The unit has been reset to original factory setting, ready for use by the new owner.

These do have a fan, goes to show how quiet they are!

I use the identical kit and can highly recommend it. I didn't think it had a fan as it is silent :) feed it optically to a DAC and it works really well

I take it my buffalo mini station hard drive that my music is on would work fine on this...excuse my ignorance but I am not overly apple oriented ?

orbscure

I wasn't particularly Apple orientated either Grant, but I was able to stream hi-def FLAC files and normal mp3 files from a 2TB Western Digital MyCloud drive, as well as similar files on an older 1TB Buffalo LinkStation, both using FooBar2000 to play the files... All you'll need is a DAC with USB input, everything else you'll need is included :)

I have yet to see a hard drive that won't work with MacOs.

Edit: What I should have wrote in the first place to offer a constructive and educated opinion on the item for sale

There's a lot of tweaks that can be done to these to really further what is already a terrific platform for music and a very flexible one at that GLWTS :)

Agreed.

Dan, I've no idea what prompted that remark, but it is unwanted and tantamount to thread-crapping, on what is after all someone's sales ad, therefore please remove it. Ta!

Marco.

My sincerest apologies to the OP.
It was meant to be a joke that has obviously backfired and I meant no offence whatsoever ever I assure u, it's a fantastic item at a fantastic price and I was surprised one of the earlier interested parties didn't snap it up, it was supposed to have a smiley at the end but ended up with two squares??

It's something I say regularly to people in jest, ie someone who I know may be selling something or doing something that didn't work out, the person didn't want it etc and I'll say 'well maybe he didn't like the cut of ur jib mate lol'

Honestly guys I didn't mean it to come across the way it did, I am very sorry please accept my apology, I feel rotten now...

Whoever buys this unit from Pete will get an identical matching 500gb hard drive from Iomega off me for free.

It has the same case as the Mac Mini for sale and has I think 4 extra USB ports on the rear and a couple firewire connections :)

Pete, i am going to un-dibs as i am so undecisive on this i feel i might be holding another potential buyer from posting,
nothing wrong with price and Dan's offer of another hard drive makes it real tempting,
it's just that i am not techy and so unsure about using a Mac and hi rez files and streaming round the house etc...

Thanks for your time and patience in answering my Q's and have a bump. :)

No worries Andy... this is now available for £230 with free mainland UK postage or collection from CR5... and not forgetting Dan's incredibally kind offer of a free Iomega 500gb HD for the buyer as seen in post #23 above :)

Cheers
