I was browsing through iTunes today and came across this that I hadn't watched for ages. Interesting techniques and for something so simple, it looks fantastic.

I saw that a few months back. It's fantastic isn't it?
I was also recently marveling at the mad Japanese guys who take part in planing competitions - thinnest shaving with a hand plane!

I used to get laughed at when I claimed that hand planing was more accurate than most machines!! Mind you I think 9 microns would be pushing it, even with my best cutter. I wonder what wood they are using.

Could be!!

If I use boxwood I can get a continuous shaving that is pretty thin but I doubt very much that it approaches what he achieves. I love Japanese tools and quite often use my western ones as pull rather than push - much better control.
