Bought a 1210 to see what the fuss is about.

Well, i finally did it. I bought meself a 1210 to play with and see what the fuss is all about. Just got it up and running with a few alterations via the onboard phonostage of my amp. Well I found the RB250 and RB300 very awkward on the Technics. Obviously it depends on the set height for VTA for a particular cartridge, but I found the arm lifter far too close to the turntable top for comfortable use. I was much happier with the stock arm as far as ergonomics are concerned. This can be usefully improved with a quality rewire and a good headshell.

Graeme has one for sale on here which has precisely those mods.. I'd never previously though of them as extracting the most detail but with these mods his certainly found the detail in the dirtiest of grooves and never skipped a beat. If he doesn't get his sale Steve I'll see if I can have a borrow of it and you'll be welcome round for a listen.

I may be tempted to agree with you. A spacer is a good option.
