I have a Croft 25 basic and love the individual controls , If you are slightly off the perfect listening position you can adjust the channels to get the sound just spot on .

I moved to a Croft Micro 25 six months ago. My previous (integrated) amp had a single volume control (and remote control of volume) and I must admit that the thought of the dual controls and the lack of remote control wasn't too appealing. However, I soon got used to the dual controls and now they don't bother me in the slightest.

Hi Barry,

I believe it is possible to get the Croft 25 with a single pot as a few folk on AOS can testify.

Personally I like the dual volume control as I have imbalances in my listening room and I can compensate. I don't always sit centrally to my speakers either so the volume controls help here as well.

The Ferrograph 'F307' does not have a balance control instead it has a dual concentric volume control, infact the Tone controls are also dual concentric. Clever idea of omitting the balance control..

Back in 2009 whilst I was using a Croft pre/power combination, the only thing I could say was truly irritating with it was the dual volume pots and the massive sensitivity of those pots which made adjusting the volume just about impossible. In terms of ultimate sound quality, the pre/power combo was just about the finest amplifier combination I have ever heard and my, I have heard some amplifiers.

I now use one volume control on my croft. But previous to that I had the basic and the micro 25 pre's.. I don't mind the dual controls at all. Sounds great but they do take some getting used to at first. Once you get used to them it becomes easy to set them properly.

Now I use a stereo attenuator which to me makes things sound much more natural. But there you go.

I'm all for that, especially if they are friction coupled.

The Croft dual volume thing is a non issue IMO. I've been selling his kit for 30 years and never had anyone complain about it. A few are trepidatious but you get used to it within half a dozen twiddles.
