Thanks to a nudge from Martin T I bought Nat's FR64FX and met Nat when he brought it in (forgetting to give him the cup of tea I promised !)

Speedy Steve on the case to make up an ebony arm board, ready this week and over to Steve with my Tech with existing Jelco

First play with the Jelco - ok
Fiddle around and change arms - thanks Steve this is your strength and not mine.

Tech now with FR64FX and Steve's great little ebony arm board
Great sound. Warmer, smoother, more detail.
Surprisingly good.

Back home, eat first
Tech into my system and a listen to favourite test album Bop til you drop
This was just so good we both laughed out loud at the quality and the detail.
Just sublime.
It was good before and now it is I'm not sure how much better as I kept finding new things

This morning
Kissing the Pink - What noise
New album for me so only a couple of previous listens, so could be wrong
But ...... the detail - stunning

'Course the real reason it sounds so good ?
It's black and we all know black is best :)

Ok anyone want a Jelco 750 ?

So glad the FR worked out for you, Mike. Now you have a special and unique turntable setup, too!

Agreed about Bop 'Til You Drop, it's an outstanding record for testing a system's resolving power and dynamics and just great music too.

Hey me too, was a bit of a shot in the dark.
It was my carer that pushed me into it
:)

What continues to amaze is the detail that wasn't there before I pulled the veil/s away.
I'm now getting some sounds that I'm sure aren't supposed to be there !

The power of ebony, ok I have to concede there's a bit of Fidelity Research magic in there too:)

It was a fun swap here trying them back to back on my system. The diff was clear to hear.

The big improvement in the sound quality is big enough to say two upgrades in one so the FR and the armboard doing the business

Listening to Cream - Goodbye, hardly a test for hifi .... ?

yes but

First thing I thought, it sounds 'rough', which gave me a surprise.
'Course I'm hearing more of what was going on so perhaps 'raw' is better
Felt I was on stage for a while.
Layers stripped away on a live album gets you closer to the real thing

The separation of instruments on Cream - Live Cream took me by surprise - very nice

Ry Cooder - Crossroads seems to have hit the glass (studio) ceiling.
It was good but I expected more detail from Mr Cooder........

With bells on, one of the worst recordings l have in my collection, but brilliant music though.

and yet

Barclay James Harvest - And other short stories

A wonderful record, 9/10 on the Mikeometer

Couldn't bear to listen to it
The guys that engineered and or produced that should be banned from music
