There is a marked change in the sound from the cart...immediately I noticed much deeper and solid bass, but I also think some of the "snap and slam" is gone! We'll see as time progresses.

Hmmm, I didn't want to say anything other than point out that the D is a high compliance cartridge and it really doesn't like standard 103 levels of mass. On my rebuilt D I've made sure the headshell is a relatively light one and the spacer is plastic...but hey if you like it then that's all that counts!

I agree about the mass...this shell was the lightest I could find at 9 grams. It was recommended to me by a gent from Audiogon who has considerable experience with the 103D, so I took the leap of faith.

A recently purchased Audio Technica MG-6 headshell was supposed to jump into service with this cart (would have resulted in a reduction in mass of 4 grams), but I couldn't get the screws all the way through the body...this weekend!
