Hi All,

As a rule these days I play SACDs on my Blu Ray spinner if I play them at all. However I just got sent the new limited edition on Audio Fidelity of Eric Clapton's classic Journeyman album to review for the paper's website. It's a hybrid and sounds fine on the VRDS and quite a bit better on the blu ray reading the SACD layer. Now I thought SACDs were a bit dead in the water, but it seems not, so assuming I'm going to get more to review, does anyone on here have any experience of the Sony SCD-XB790 SACD player? I have been offered one at a very reasonable price £65.00 and will get it for this kind of thing If it's better than the Blu Ray. Anyone got any idea?

Cheers

Paul,

I had one back in the day. For 65 smackers it will do. IIRC it was "voiced" for the UK market - it was a bit warm. Later Oppos blew them out of the water. I have a Xindac valve output SACD player which is much crisper than I remember the Sony.

If you haven't pulled the trigger, can you lay your hands on a Denon 2910/3910? That is what I replaced the Sony with.

Yes snap it up at that price. An Oppo might well be better but they are a bitch to find on the used market and will be a lot more than sixty notes.

Thanks for that guys, the only thing that I'm not sure of is if it is better at SACD than the BDP, it's a quandary
