Just saw a colleague who has a recording studio, and he mentioned he has filled his near field monitors with cat litter!
Unused of course!

Will this be the next big Hifi 'find'?

EDIT!!!!!

SORRY boys!

I forgot to put it was his stands that he filled with cat lit!

I was in a rush earlier and missed the vital bit out! :rolleyes:

Not sure that's a good idea. Most cat litter is hygroscopic and attracts and retains atmospheric moisture. The Fullers Earth variety will turn into slightly damp powder.

Only really works when the "lumps" are left in which improves bass :lol:

Couple of bags of builders sand and pea gravel works well enough for me, doesn't feel as nice between the toes though when having a poo

l have used Kitty litter in my Skylan stands for a few years now as l was getting a bloated bass line using sand in them, Kitty Litter and Rice are Noel at Skylan standard recommendations. ( The Kitty Litter worked much better in the Skylans under my Harbs:).)

Again, rice is not a good idea. Rice attracts mites and a colony of mites in stands or speakers will leave you with a pile of nasty bacteria ridden crap in the equipment.

I've been using cat litter in stands for 20 or more years and it works well. It is perfectly dry, so you don't have to go to the trouble of drying sand or shingle and once sealed inside the stand it poses no problems. It is easily obtainable and relatively cheap.

I use lead shot in my speaker loading compartments. I bought 60kg of recycled yacht keel ballast (it was the best bulk price I could find) and put 30kg in each speaker. I could put more in, but it's a bugger without tipping the speakers backwards which I can't do on my own. The speaker cones go through the carpet into concrete and bass improved markedly in tightness and extension.
