I have the 57s, Leak Stereo 20 (dated 1961). Have had the Garrard 301. That would make a fair start I reckon.

The 57s are in daily use. The Leak has just been replaced by a Firebottle OTL designed and made by Alan of this parish. Its still close though, the OTL has better definition at both ends and the mids are just as good. The Leak has been there for 30 years, it took something very good indeed to replace it. The Garrard was foolishly stored in my landlord's garage for a while and when I went back for it, it had been 'cleared out' :(:steam:

What i was thinking is your obviously capable of making a nice plinth for it. All servicing on a '301' can be done by anyone who's knows what they are doing.

Your right about the Leak 'ST-20' fully rebuilt they take some beating. I have one of these i bought from a bloke on AOS, i just heve not got around to finishing it yet..

I have just replaced the Arcam Alpha amp that I have been using for my Main Mac system with a proper amp - Rogers Ravensbrook. Totally blows the newer one out of the water (oops, I mean is somewhat better) and thats only using the little Wharfdale 7 Pros. Not top flight but could certainly feature in my 60's bedroom system

Andre, I would say just about the finest sounding Vanilla 5-20's commercially available in their day :smoking: the Beam Echo DL7-35's are also a very fine 5-20 .

My Stella amp from Armstrong would be the A10 MK2, an almost hybrid EL34/EL84 sonic presentation, Partridge OPT's again .

Well I have Quad ESL 57's, the Garrard 301, Tannoy 15" monitor golds, but no valve amp from that period, I only have the Radford but that came from (dear I say it), the 80's.

I suppose I could have added a couple of Denon 103 cartridges, a Ferrograph 632T reel-to-reel and a Nagra IV-S reel-to-reel to the list. They are all of '60s vintage.

What input connector is used on the A10. It looks like a Belling & Lee 'aerial' socket, fitted with an adapter to allow an RCA phono plug to be used. Do you know where such adapters can be found? (I am also interested in finding an adapter to allow a Belling & Lee aerial plug to fit an RCA socket.) Tandy used to sell them, but the company has long gone.

Those Tannoy 'Vari twin' cartridges are very rare..
