Courtesy of Speedy Steve and his heavy duty soldering iron (and more talent than me)

My already very good Exposure speaker cables had their poor banana plugs removed and 4mm Z plugs in their place.

Compared one pair with the old plugs - good

New pair in

I was expecting a subtle improvement. I was prepared for negligible or no improvement

After a few bars we knew this was major.
Bass filled out and went down deeper.
Further into the track the instruments had 'their own place' quite separate to the others, more detail in the top end, clearer diction in the singing.
Was there anything not improved ?
Probably not
Fabulous upgrade you would expect from a major box swap

Thanks Steve for the work and Martin T for the sharp elbow in the ribs to get the naff banana plugs replaced

Yep I use Z plugs on my speaker cables. A much much tighter and longer fit than standard bananas. Makes sense that this'd make a difference compared to many tweaks.

I said those z-plugs are good! They work particularly well into my Chord and Usher WBT terminals as they screw up solidly, yet have a little spring in them to maintain good contact.

There's nothing like an inexpensive and effective upgrade to put a smile on your face :)

The 'right' direction for these cables was shown by what the previous owner had.

I had my suspicions as it was a Mickey Mouse set up with 3 pairs of stereo cables welded together at the amp end, plus 'Exposure Electronics' stamped into the cable ran from speaker to amp.

So I tested them both ways round

'Exposure Electronics' going from amp to speaker wins by a short head and half.
Touch more detail in the top end and percussion, tiny bit more oomph on the bass

Happy
:D

Now to convert the other 2 pairs

Any chance of a link to the plugs used?
