Any member of AOS who would like to make a purchase of this very fine interconnect
can do so via this thread which directs you to the product on my website here. (http://www.mains-cables-r-us.co.uk/analogue-interconnects-/877-slic-innovations-eclipse-c-interconnect-cable.html) After
50+ pages of discussions I think we have exhausted the subject of how the cable
came to market and who is selling it and how it's been marketed. So please do not
use this thread to crap the product or me. The interconnect costs £492 for a 1 metre
stereo pair with RCA's.

http://www.mains-cables-r-us.co.uk/2448-thickbox_default/slic-innovations-eclipse-c-interconnect-cable.jpg
Here are some answers to save anyone asking the same questions again and again......:)

I do not have any demo sets, if you want to hear them please make a purchase and if
they are not for you send them back for a refund.

The SLIC's take a long time to build and assemble hence 0.5 mtr costs the same as 1 mtr.

There are no technical details because I do not believe in them, I judge cables with my ears
and do not care if the capacitance is low and resistance is whatever, if the inventor of the
cable furnished me with figures I would not publish them anyway because of the above.

The RCA version has connectors fitted that were chosen for fit and function, they are not
ETI, Eichmann or KLE or Furutech they were chosen for sonics and ease of installation into
the cable itself. They will not be changed throughout the life of the cable.

The XLR versions were chosen using the same criteria as the RCA's, however with this
configuration there is an option to up-grade to Furutech or Oyaide XLR's if the customer
so requires it, the XLR's fitted as standard are perfectly adequate and do a good job.

The cable was sent out to a number of testers along with well over 15 different interconnects
over the last 2 years, Frank has been doing cable testing for me for many years and most of
the time rejected all the cable designs I sent him as being weak in certain areas, the SLIC
as far as Frank was concerned was just another cable to listen to and report on, the same as
the other 10+ I had sent him over the years MCRU has been in business. There is no hidden
agenda.

The SLIC sounds like no other cable there has ever been, to say it easily out performs every
cable I have ever heard would be true but as I sell it I don't expect many people to believe me
so buy one and hear it for yourself, there are not many forum goers buying it as most of the
one's sold in the last 2 weeks have been regular customers of mine who visit my website
regularly and have seen the product and purchased it, it does exactly what it says on the tin.

There are not many user reports I guess for 2 reasons, 1 the users are too busy enjoying
their music and 2 they don't frequent forums.

Finally there will be speaker cables, mains, USB and if we manage it a tone-arm cable but that
may be quite some time away as I cannot keep up with demand as it is.

Ha funny you should ask that as I made one tonight for listening
tests but I need to get Nick's DAC fired up and my Teac VRDS1
back out of the box.

Will report shortly. :)

Is that the benefit of them between the analogue components, or you can hear an additional benefit?

All cable will of course work as a digital cable but probably best to check it against a proper 75ohm cable and without the other SLICs in the system so you are only listening to the digital IC as much as possible.

I did that already, I was simply determining if SLIC works as a 75ohm cable and it does.

Any cable will "work" as a digital cable, but it doesn't mean it has a 75R impedance.

Shame there's no thread to tell us what you think! I'd be interested to hear. Perhaps you should start your own page in the gallery forum (if you haven't already) then it is quite clear that it's your own opinion and not open for discussion..

Only if it's a full-blown review, otherwise all cable discussion should go into The Artist's Palette.

However, that said, there's nothing wrong with Michael adding a few thoughts about the Slics on his Gallery thread.

I appreciate the young man bit! Thanks. I guess you if you know.. do you know?

I'm not sure if shielding is always a benefit or not but has been on my mind recently regarding Oyaide cables etc .. just got some old Deltec Black Slink ICs with the shield as a seperate earth, wasn't sure if I heard a bit more of a freshness to the sound or if it was a one-way observation via auditory memory from the night before, will have to try again.

The SLIC is shielded, personally I have done listening tests with and without and a couple of my testers have and it works, well the type of shielding I use does.

I also sent out 2 identical cables with oyaide 510 cable both had the same plugs on, one was with shielding one without

The shielded one sounded marginally better.

As these are hand made on demand/ordering and from Franks thread I understand they are burned in before despatch or was that just his, what sort of time can a puchaser expect from placing an order and paying for the cable and the cable actually dropping through their letterbox ready to seen what the fuss is about?

I have a 0.5 mtr one made up with your name on it :)

I can post it today/tomorrow if and when you order

As regards your post in another thread about people commenting on the cable, I
cannot see there being many as most sold so far are not on this forum and I
do not usually purposely ask customers for comments/reviews they usually send
them to me without being asked if at all. One customer did reply but when I told
you all what he had said I was accused of spamming.

If you are also looking as others have asked already for comparisons against other
company's cables all I will say is I gave eugene a whole raft of interconnects from
various manufacturers including crystal cables (about £3000 for a 1 mtr i/c) and
various others with mixtures of oyaide/black rhodium/furutech/belden cable and
eichmann/wbt/eti/furutech etc etc connectors on to put the SLIC though it's paces
and I and a few local customers have been listening for a good while now, NONE
hold a candle to the SLIC, maybe because almost every cable from the last 30+ years
has been designed the same way with a tube filled with wires/dampening material/
insulation etc etc in various guises, SLIC is not like that.

Examples below, even submarine cable is designed the same way..

Thanks for your rapid reply.

I am waiting to see when others than Frank make their opinions known and if those opinions (especially in comparison to their existing cables) suggest it is something worth investigating further. So if someone wants a 0.5m as I am sure you would, let them have the one you speak of.

I thought if you made a statement as to how long to deliver it might allow your potential customers for this cable to know what turn around to expect.

The different cable topology of SLIC might make a significant difference that none enthusiasts can discern readily. My system seems remarkably blessed with an absence of things that others have troubling theirs and have to be improved by cable choices. Swapping between a selection of i/cs I have accumulated over the last 20 yrs tells me. I can always make an i/c of bell wire to see how different (worse) that is.

The next few weeks will be interesting.

Sorry a more comprehensive reply would have been in order but was and still am too busy making SLICS.

Yes they are burnt in prior to dispatch on a Nordost Vidar cable burner, it does i/c's both rca and xlr, speaker cables and tonearm cables,
3-4 days is reputedly equivalent to 100 hours normal burn in time or so I was told.

Currently assembly test and shipping is taking 4-5 days then burn in time.

So you are constructing them yourself, not Eugene?

By the way is the resistance of each conductor equal? I was thinking that from the topology, it might end up with the outer conductor being about 3 or more times longer than the inner conductor.. Or is that actually desirable as long as you use the slightly lower resistance conductor as the return?

Are balanced ICs on the cards or is it too difficult to find a way to implement that?

That's fine, dude, as long as the feedback is conducted in private (off of the forum) between the person auditioning the cables and you, as after recent events, sending out cables at random for members to review on the forum, prior to them buying said cables, is no longer permitted.

Once they've bought the cables in question (after any 30-day money back guarantee has expired), then they are free to review them.

There will be a public announcement made shortly to that effect in the Noticeboard section.

That image was merely to illustrate that 99.9% of cables are designed the same way a circle with wires and insulation/dampening material running down.

Whatever images you may have seen about the SLIC design are old ones, I noticed someone posted some in a thread that has since been closed, they are NOT the same as the final SLIC design.

If you looked on my website you would see XLR balanced are available and have been for quite some time. Indeed if you read the posts you would see a member here already has some and posted an image of his.

I have inductance and capacitance figures but have already stated they will not be published as its your ears you need to evaluate cables not a slide rule or calculator :)

The only ones I've seen have been related to a patent. So the design of the final SLIC is not patented, perhaps prior art?

And are you manually constructing them yourself, so a handmade cable? Quite a nice touch..

Edit: Oh I see, Eugene has another patent too .. so yes, different to that construction shown in the naughty thread.

Aw! No! Aw! Stoop! Aw! No! (that's my best Frankie Howard there). No tittering.

By machine! Then someone teminates the ends by hand to complete them to the desired length.

You don't think Oyaide for example have people wrapping the conductors in each layer and then push it into the sleeve, hand rolled like a cuban cigar?

I was just wondering if you were constructing the cable as per the design from the raw materials (obviously not completely raw, no metal ores or anything) or whether Eugene has invested in some kind of automated process for the basic construction.

That's fine, Dave, as long as Michael keeps his thoughts on the Slics off of the open forum, and strictly in private to you, until he's bought the cables (and I mean bought in the long term), since it was you who initiated the auditioning.

You should note that if I see any new threads popping up from folk you've asked to post their thoughts on the Slics, then they will be asked the above question to ensure that the new rules are being complied with.

If not, discussions will be brought to an abrupt end until said new rules have been observed.

Marco

Because, in this case David (a trader) has initiated the review process by sending out cables to you, rather than you simply having bought them without being prompted, through your own volition, and then reviewed them on forum for the benefit of other members.

We're still playing around with the final wording of the new rule, but essentially it will be along the lines of this:

In any forum review, the author must state at the very beginning whether the product(s) concerned have been purchased yet or not, and then later update that information accordingly, if or when the product(s) in question have been bought at the end of an initial loan period. This lets everyone know what the score is in that respect and enables people to judge comments made on that basis.

ALL products discussed or reviewed MUST be at the volition of the user, not the seller. Therefore in future, there will be no premeditated promotional selling allowed by dealers, such as on the lines of: 'here, try X and let everyone know how wonderful it is'...

There will be no hyping-up of products, secrets or 'mystery wonders'. Prices and full details of products must be provided up front at the start of any review, or when any comments are made about them on the forum. If such information for any reason is unavailable, then comments or reviews must wait, and only be posted when said information becomes available.

That's not the final draft, but the new ruling on product reviews by members will essentially be moderated along those lines.

Marco.

Hi Marco,

I understand your ruling but my story is not the same as Franks.
I dont have the Slics on loan or for review. I bought them with my hard earned money!
I only heard of the Slic when Frank posted about it.
I then bought a couple of pairs recently after i read some thoughts on the now closed threads.

David has not sent me anything on loan at all.

The Slics he's sending me are in fact mine, I'm just a buyer pure and simple :)

Hope that helps to clear some confusion :)

I'm glad you approve, Jerry. I think it's the fairest way of doing things :)

There's of course an element of trust in this, as we have no way of proving whether anyone has actually bought the products being reviewed, even if they say so (although I'm sure that Michael has bought his Slics), but at least it sets some sort of precedent. I should mention that if anyone is caught out lying, then it will be considered as a banning offence.

Furthermore, 'bought', in this context, means bought permanently, as in at the end of any trial period. Before that point, even though the user has had to pay up front for any items, in order to assess them, it does not count as an actual purchase.

But watch out for the Grammar Nazi's (sic) on "let's". :spank: :eyebrows:

Noted - and edited!

Marco.

P.S All this stuff will be moved to the Noticeboard and also Critics Corner later, in order to tidy up David's trade thread. I just thought it was pertinent to mention the new ruling here, as it's largely been put into place as a result of some of the negative attention the Slic cables have attracted for various reasons.

Yomanze

Hi Marco understand why new policies are being made and agree with them, but if we order an item and pay for it on sale or return, then send it back and post a review how it wasn't for us, this isn't in the nature if what you're trying to prevent, so we should be able to buy something on trial and review it even if we send it back?

At the same time when Stan sent me a BM2 I reviewed it in PM and not with a public post, a while back now, so there is a clear line between being sent a product vs, buying one.

Marco

Hi Neil,

That's a fair and very valid point. My answer to Alan here should pretty much cover it: http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?32198-Trade-Input-on-AoS-Getting-The-Balance-Right&p=549110#post549110

Essentially, what we're clamping down on is the abuse of the forum to 'hype-up' specific products (cables or otherwise) for any form of personal or material gain - and in future this situation will be much more strictly monitored.

Therefore, in terms of the situation you've outlined, there would be no problem, providing that the subsequent review was done for the right reasons.

SLIC Review

"Hi-fi is full of hyperbole, it always has been, so sifting the wheat from the chaff has never been easy. When I started hearing about this cable on the Art of Sound forum I didn't pay it much mind - the years have desensitised me and I was happy with my Nordost Valhalla interconnects - they're incredible cables that have continued to impress me with their speed, accuracy and general ruthless "warts 'n' all" musical portrayal.

Still, after a while my curiosity was piqued so I thought I'd give them a go. There's a 30 day money back guarantee - in a way that's better than a free trial because you don't have to worry about having to pay for it if you do like it. It's a lot cheaper than the Valhalla (about 1/7th the price for a metre pair) so my expectations weren't that high.....

A couple of days later the postie delivered a nice solid box with some fairly chunky ICs inside. They're sheathed in webbing with silver (plated) plugs and heatshrink showing the directional arrows. I've seen flashier cables but seeing as they're going to live down the back of your kit, what does it matter?

I swapped out the Valhalla between phono stage & pre and put a record on. Realising that the SLIC interconnect was better took about 0.5 of a second. It took ten seconds to really grasp how much better. Nordost Valhalla is astonishingly good cable - I worked my way up through the Norse range a few years back and the final (this is before Odin and I'm not a multi-millionaire) step up was breathtaking. Whether it's worth it is a relative question. Anyway, the SLIC made this all irrelevant. It is without doubt the most neutral, transparent and revealing cable I've ever heard. It makes me want to accost strangers outside my house and say "come in and listen to this!". Everything I've played has had detail I was previously unaware of, nuances to vocals, facets to guitar lines, subtle variations in rhythm. The cable opens the sound so much there's space for all the elements of the music to do their thing, free from interference. Nordost Valhalla is still an exceptional cable but I'll be selling mine and buying more SLIC - another pair is already on order.

So, what does it sound like? That's an impossible question to answer - it's so even handed it has no "sonic signature". Cables never improve a signal, all they can do is take away. This interconnect takes away less than any cable I've ever used.

SLIC. I must confess I don't like the name much, I know it's an acronym but it makes me think of something it's hard to get a grip on. Maybe that's appropriate though.

KIT : ESOTERIC K-05. FEEDING AUDI RESEARCH DAC 8, VIA CHORD SARUM DIGITAL INTERCONNECT. THE SLICS ARE IN USE BETWEEN THE AR DAC8 AND MY LUXMAN CLASS A INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER. THE AMP IS FIRING A PAIR OF PMC EB1 FLOORSTANDERS, WIRED WITH AVID AUDIO SCT REFERENCE SPEAKER CABLE, WITH DRAIN WIRES BACK TO THE MAINS EARTH.

The kit I have owned for many years is deliberately transparent in delivery and I have always relished kit that can be as natural-sounding as possible. The Class A Luxman excels at soundstage and the mid-range, particularly with cello and oboe (as well as saxophone and lead guitar/vocals) is very sweet, without ever being ‘wearing’ even at high volumes. The PMC’s lap this up and present a wide and deep soundstage that completes the picture.

So, why would different cables make a difference? Well, the sheer transparency of the kit means that cables can make a real difference and this is why I was keen to hear the new SLIC ECLIPSE C from MCRU.

I now have both balanced XLR versions (between DAC8 and LUXMAN) plus RCA connector version which I use a s a direct feed from the Esoteric analogue outputs to the Luxman.

There was an immediate opening up of dynamics – best described as ‘energy’ and more space between instruments in classical pieces. Sometimes this can happen with cables that are brighter, only to find that what first seemed like a major improvement, became artificial and too bright. Not so with the SLIC – they are not bright-sounding cables, they are very realistic to the recorded sound and, to my ears, provide a very sweet midband, tight (not woolly) bass, a deep soundstage and great rhythm and timing. I have no idea what the component parts are – whether solid core, multi-strand, or both – all I know is that with all the types of music I listen to – and that is a wide range, the SLICs bring something to an already excellent sound. I have not heard any real change after ‘burn-in’ with extended listening, which means that unlike some cables, you don’t have to wait months to find out what the true sound is like! If changes do happen, I will happily write a further review. Finally, they are easy to install, as very flexible – and, if you like deep and wide soundstages – the SLICs provide that in abundance. Although the components are not the most important aspect of any cable – they remind me of the very best single-wire silver interconnects, where brightness does not exist, but clarity and space do.

I've now split this thread to seperate the Trade and Non-Trade content.
If you want to read reviews of this cable, they are here (http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?32842-Slic-Cable-Reviews)

You may also want to read the two other threads on the subject - you'll find them by using the AoS search function. Terms such as 'Mystery Cable' may give you the results that you seek.

Ooo - better watch out, Bev - that might be regarded as a "teaser post" ;)

A SLIC speaker cable? I think I'll take a sabbatical from AOS for the next few weeks .....

You "believe"? Either there is, Bev, or there isn't going to be some Slic speaker cables - so which is it? If it's the former, then let's see some details of the product concerned (price, construction, etc), or otherwise there's no point in discussing a product that as yet doesn't exist.

Also, with respect, as this is in the trade room, it should be David making the announcement, not you. That is unless you've been appointed as his new PR person? ;)

Yes I totally agree Drew that people picking holes every time anything SLIC is mentioned is very tiresome indeed ;)

I'm not being "cheeky". I was making a valid point, so kindly pay attention to it in future.
