As I recently got a NOS Luxman WL-717 tuner (along with a Pioneer SC-100 / SM-100 & SX-410 ), which is the 1st tuner ever made by Luxman with Black Gates and stuff, I was left wondering if there's a forgotten matching amp for this, in the likes of a SQ-707 or similar unit?

Fingers crossed! Thanks ;)

I had the 707 many years ago. Didn't rate it much. My Rotel RA-611 of the same era ran circles round it. The RA-611 would actually look rather good with the Luxman tuner as the facias are the same colour.

I've got a whole pile of original brochures for vintage Japanese gear including Luxman. Probably the WL-717 and SQ-707 too.

Geoff, the tuner itself is outstanding but I already read elsewhere that the amp is not that great, I'm just a bit biased in getting the matching pair for collection purpose. Will check the size of the Rotel and see if they're a match there. Send me a pm if you have a a brochure for any of these Pioneers (or Yamaha Cr-2020 or Sansuis for that matter) :eyebrows: I know...

Black Gates? The capacitors? They didn't exist back then - internet says the WL717 is from about 1971.
