Evening all,
I’ve always listened to loads of music, mainly because of what I do. I work semi-professionally as a jazz pianist whilst also being in the very lucky position of teaching and writing about music for my day job.
For a long time I listened to music on a pair of Yamaha multmedia speakers fed from my PC or via an old iRiver H300, but this Christmas decided it was time to do something about that. My home system is currently modest, but a work in progress. As sources there’s a Marantz CD 5400, along with my Linux box (running Fedora) feeding a Focusrite Saffire LE, into an Amptastic Mini-1, and a pair of Cambridge Audio S30s. No preamp just at the moment, but hope to be acquiring a passive sometime soon, and seeing some useful discussions on this forum about that. Aside from the Focusrite, everything has been acquired on a tight budget, but it’s great just how good a result you can get with some careful research. The Amptastic Mini-1 is astonishing for the price IMHO, and completely transformed the system from the cheap Lepai t-amp it replaced (and that Lepai wasn't at all bad given how little it cost).
I listen to pretty large amounts of jazz including loads of Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker, Pat Metheny, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Aaron Parks, Terence Blanchard, John Taylor, Aaron Goldberg, Antonio Sanchez, plus some Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree, Sigur Ros, Christian Fennesz, Elbow, and any amount of classsical music.
Look forward to hanging around here!
