I recently picked up a Soundsmith-modified Mono Denon 103R which in conjunction with an 8g 'stabiliser' sounds rather good in my setup with a S&B step-up I recently acquired to which it seems particularly well-matched. So I'm on the hunt for a very low miles or (even better) Expert Paratrace retipped Denon 103R to see if I can repeat the trick.
In trade I offer a Soltear integrated headshell moving coil cartridge. I acquired this this as a 'manufacturer's sample' and from the look of the tip I can believe it. Specs are below and it runs nicely in my setup on the same 3 ohm setting as your typical Ortofon. Low-to-medium compliance so should fit with just about all removable headshell tonearms, I was running it very happily in a Jelco SA-750D on the standard counterweight.
Apart from being a smart looker, this is a really lovely cartridge, natural, musical and flowing and a long way from the etched presentation of some modern cartridges which are all show and no soul, in many ways it gave my Io a run for its money. I wouldn't be parting with it if it wasn't for my newfound curiosity on the 103R which I haven't listened to for years and only previously on a very different setup from my current one.
