A few years ago,a forum member,i think it was Andre?? recommended a band called Demon Fuzz to me.When i mentioned that i liked a band called Cymande (all new to me back then).So off i went and bought a re-issue of their first album called Afreaka! I absolutly loved it! Need some more of this i thought,lets see what else they have out.
Turns out they have only released 2 albums and the second one being very rare and not been re-issued! Oh well i thought,i'll just keep an eye out for a copy and get it if i find it.Never did see a copy of it for years,until browsing a few different sites a few nights ago and came across 2 copys! Here we go i thought,lets see how much they want.Clicked on the first one,they wanted £900!! Hmmm that's just a little out my budget! Damn it.Ok lets see how much the other one is! £170, hmmm that is still very expensive! The most i'd spent before on one piece of vinyl was £30 on a 12" single.I was intrigued though,so i contacted the seller to get some more info on the record! It didn't have an original cover and there was a scratch on the end of the first track on side B! It was an original pressing! (PC-002 ) Apart from that it was fine! It had one previous owner (apart from the collector selling it) an elderly jamaican fella!
To cut a long story short,i am now the owner of an album i had to pay £170 odd to get! Am i stupid paying that? Quite possibly.Do i care? Not one jot!!:D
So what is the most have you spent on one piece of vinyl?
$60 US for a new copy of Billie Holiday ' Songs for Distingue' Lovers" on 12" 45. Nice pressing. Awesome album.
Used I think the most was for a copy of Robert Crumb and the Cheap Suit Serenaders. Maybe $25 at the time.

The most i had paid before purchasing the Demon Fuzz album (called Roots and Off shoots btw!) was a 12" drum and bass single,by Ed Rush & Optical & Fierce,called Cutslo / Alien Girl! I paid £30 for this late 90's dancefloor classic! I usually just buy re-issues! It's far cheaper :lol:

£99 on nitin sawney boxed set, worth every penny
Think the most I've paid so far has been about £50 for a few different records however I sold a second/third press of Hunky Dory for £100 that I had bought six months earlier for £50.
Hunky Dory first pressings are seriously rare BTW as only a few were pressed then the album was pulled by the record company in late Dec 1971 and subsequently re-issued in 1972. Think it was only on sale for about three months in 1971.

I must admit i was a little nervous about spending this kind of money on an item coming from overseas! But the seller was fantastic in his communication and answered the very many questions i asked him! He knew i was a music person first and foremost and not a 'collector' of vinyl.This is not going to be sealed away while i rub my hands together thinking how much in could potentially be worth in the future!
I am a little gutted there is no original sleeve.Does anyone know if there is a service to get record sleeves printed from a digital file?

Yeah that's what i thought! I don't always have loads of money,but things are going well for me atm,so i've been indulging in a few items i've wanted! I'm still pinching myself that i've manage to get a copy of it!!!
£25 for Happy Mondays 'Pills Thrills and Bellyaches' used but minty. Usually about £45 but I'm not paying that. If anyone wants to break their own record I can offer a near mint copy of Smashing Pumpkins 'Melon Colley and The Infinite Sadness' first pressing numbered limited edition I'm asking £400 plus delivery ;)

If I had the money I would spend a fortune on records, top of the list is a NOS KOB six eye Columbia mono, your talking about a £1k for one.

We used to sell a lot of LPs' sets called 'Streetsounds Electro' in the record shop back in the early 80's are these the same ones.. were like a cream cover with big number on the front.. If i remember back they were about £3.99 to £4.49 each.

It measures 10m x 5m, with a depth of 1.2m dropping to 1.8m.
It came in several pieces, but has been welded together so is now 1. :eek:

Nearly a year ago on Goldfrapps Tales of us autographed box set... £90
Some dude on a swedish forum bought a pile of records at approximately £65 a couple of months ago... I think it was something like 20 nice 70's rock classics. Among them was a Led Zeppelin I, first issue turquoise logo... He was only in it for the music itself so he sold it; 1100$ !!!!
Personally i paid summat like £60 for the Classic Records reissue of Led Zeppelin - III...

Seems that a few of us are willing to pay well over the mormal price of vinyl to get what we want! I certainly wouldn't want to make an habbit of it though! Unless i came into lots of money of course!

If you have ALL the streetsounds collection its worth a LOT of money trust me!
I have about 10 of the collection, for me the 80's was it as far as music is concerned, Sister Sledge rules :lol:

The very same! The reason they were so popular was that they were compilations of American 12" singles that were generally not available over here, so instead of spending a fiver or more on one 12" single you would get a whole lp. Of course the 'purists' and those who could afford them only bought the original 12" releases ... The box set was a limited edition and still very much sought after I would guess. The ebay seller I bought mine from actually sent me a different box set to the one he had in the photograph - like I wouldn't notice! :lol: After some snivelling apologies the near mint condition one miraculously turned up ...

You are not wrong there. I was very much into Hip hop/Electro back then. I only wished I had more money back then. I would have bought more imports.

Probably £40 for some oddity but was for a Resonance FM fundraising auction.
Personally I find expensive vinyl slightly disappointing.. the difference in sound quality between it and CD is hit and miss and especially between it and someone's vinyl rip downloaded online somewhere.

Don't say things like that please...at least till i get mine anyway! I've never bought any vinyl from abroad,so i'm a little nervous about the journey!
I remember buying a first edition album of big Bill Broonzy and Washboard Sam many years ago, there was lots of competition but I won out, can't remember the cost but was over 50 pounds which at the time was a lot,
Have never seen another come up so guess I got a bargain, it is very early vinyl,very thick and sounds great for the 50,s

I had the complete Beatles analogue output many in both mono and stereo, everything from before the latest crop of digitally fuc... sorry remastered stuff that came out recently and it's all first pressing stuff. The only one I don't have is the White Album which was nicked a few years ago. This was a sub 5000 numbered copy so to replace it I will have to spend around £1200. I look every chance I get, but I have resigned my self to laying out the money to complete the collection 'cos overall the completeness will mean the whole lot are worth more.
Until now the most I ever paid for a single album was £500 for a copy of Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) by the Stones this was a first press mono signed by the whole band and with a dedication written by Brian Jones to a fairly well known groupie of the day. I have 3 copies of this now, The autographed one was sold in Japan for a hell of a lot more than I paid :)

Well recieved the record a few days ago! It arrived safe and sound and exactly as described! I have only played it once as i want to get it properly cleaned and put in a decent sleeve! I'm well chuffed with it and it's staying with me till the bitter end,no matter what it's worth in years to come,or what anyone would offer for it!
