To busy for me.

Marco

Probably sounds very good (as I like the style of its construction), but like Stu says, aesthetically, it looks "too busy"! Does it come in black? :)

It's almost as if, these days, everything must have its token piece of 'wood veneer' in order for it to sell...

Marco.

Nope. I think it jars with the 301. In any case, its a bit bling and trying hard to impress.

The 301 is not the prettiest of decks and this just seems an attempt to tart it up - just not necessary. I'm sure there will be those that find it attractive.

For a minute, I thought the price included the deck and both arms - seemed like a bargain:)

Kember

OK, Al, I'll bite:). I'm not sure about the veneer but, overall, it seems well thought through and any table with capability for more than one arm is going to look busy. With a white paint job where the veneer is, I think it would look fine.

Probably sounds good, but by 'eck it's ugly!

Go for something nice in slate, I'd say. Always seems to suit the 301.

I think the add is very deceptive the title it suggests is includes the arms and turntable but the text below suggests its just the plinth

Aesthetically it would probably look better with a 401 in it. A bit off topic but are those AT95's fitted in the SME's?

Not my cup of Earl Grey either, but there seems to be an ever-increasing fashion for faffing around with 301s and 401s and making them look uglier.

I do not approve!

I like it. It looks like good 'seventies design as opposed to tasteless 'seventies design. Good 'seventies design is the best there is.

Common sense would tell you that you're not going to get a 301 with two SMEs for £699, plinth or no plinth.

Not to my taste either.

I think the 401's and 301's "need" a less blingy approach.

I dont mind, in fact I like, the fairly large wood plinths with the old Garrards and Thorens.

Wood is good, slate I hate, bling is a temporary thing.

Oh look, Im a poet and didnt know it. :)

I think it looks 'functional' I'd buy it.

Doesn't look an awful lot different from a Technics SL-1200/1210 actually.

Actually, I've studied it further and I think it's the lumpy-bumpiness and bits sticking out I object to. If you look at the seller's other items he does a similarly finished plinth for a Technics SP10 and I rather like that.

I'd be keener on the 301/401 on if it was a bit simpler in shape and style.

as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, defo 401 would look better in that plinth.

Ultimate vintage look is a Thorens TD124 mk2 in a SCHOPPER AG plinth. I missed out on one a few years ago :(

I personally don't like 2 arms on decks.

I would like to have a deck with two arms, one for mono and one for stereo or a MM cart on one and a MC on the other.

The more I look at that plinth the more I like what it does.

Just buy it Al!

Have you heard it, Brian? :)

For me, T/Ts like that are largely an abomination, and designed primarly for their 'show-off' quality.

I'm sure that I could find something that sounded as good, or if not better, which cost much less and also looked good!! ;)

It was at the WW show , did you not see it and listen to it Daftee , Belongs to JVS

Sometimes I do think you are over opinionated when commenting on ( Fookin' hideous... *That* is just wrong! ) others pride and joy

Nope, I missed it, mate. It wouldn't have mattered anyway - I'm afraid that I always give my honest opinion. If the T/T sounded great, I would've said so, but I would've also commented on its fugliness!

Quite a few folk slagged off the look of my 'rabbit hutches' (Lockwood Majors), not to mention my Celestions, when I took them down to Scalford, even though they thought that they sounded superb :eyebrows:

Did it bother me? Nah - 'tis just the way it is! Different strokes for different folks :)

Just looking at different options , As you know I have a 301 and now the weather is brightening up and the temperature is rising I intend to make a plinth , Gorden kindly sent me a template for cutting out but I want to do something a bit different to the norm birch faced ply multiple layer kind of thing :hmm:

Marco, yes, as Al said, I heard it in Jims/JVS's room at Scalford. I had about an hour around about midnight on the Saturday. About six of us. Bliss.

For me it was probably the best sound of the show.

Now, he had a very high end system, costing a great deal of money. But, it did sound fantastic and that Turntable certainly played its part in the sound produced.

Im sure he will have it there next year. For certain, one not to miss.

Thanks for the info, Brian. If it's there next year, I'll defo check it out... Looks-wise, though, I much prefer your T/T - and with that gorgeous cartridge of yours, it sounded no 3 bad either! :)
