Hi,
I love music and the best way to appreciate it is to aspire to a good hi fi system. I also like collecting things and have a bit of an enquiring mechanical mind. Hence why I have been into my Hi fi to support my music habit for many more years than I remember or care to admit.
It's such a shame that most people don't really know what a good system they can get for a relatively small outlay (if they know where to go or have friends who can help). Despite having owned some pretty good kit it is still great to get back to simplicity. Recently had a Rega 3 hooked up to an A300 through Celestion DL4's. No care in siting the equipment. Hooked up with cheap cable but it still sounded great and I spent a long night trawling albums - total outlay about £220 - awesome!
I am also really happy about downloads and sites like Spotify - now I can try so much more music than I used to which is brilliant (if a little expensive when I have to go and buy the great stuff I found).

It's an interesting thought that you can spend your whole life searching out new music and then you are only scratching the surface on what is out there.
Anyway looking forward to trawling around on this site and learning some new stuff.

I completely agree with you over the modest system thing - you can get some incredible sounds for next to nothing.
What sort of music do you like to play and what are some of your new discoveries?

Hi,
I like a wide variety of music from classic rock and blues through to jazz and electronic and drum and bass. I am not that turned onto classical music (although this is more my ignorance than any other reason).Seem to have this penchant for weird and kookie female singers so love Joanna Newsome, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Feist, Cat Power and a million others. Am really enjoying Tamikrest - Chatma at present as well as Grimes - Visions. Interestingly last night I played Tanita Tikeram - Ancient Heart and listened to the whole album twice. Hadn't heard it for about 10 years and was blown away by it's quality. Been listening to the Crusaders, Eric Gale and Billy Cobham during the day too - I work from home a lot so am lucky in that respect.
How about you? what sort of music are you into?

Mostly there are guitars involved, but I like some jazz and a little classical too. A lot of blues, of all types and ages, and a lot of blues based rock......I'm currently playing to death a big heap of early 70's Japanese rock and experimental stuff.

I agree about the blues - there is something really basic and earthy that gets you where it matters.
Would definitely like be included in The Album Club - great way to share music and discover new artists.

My system is ok - I like it anyway but I am a perennial box swapper (even when I try not to be). I am always curious to try different combinations and particularly like the idea of unusual or rare stuff.
Been trying to get some clear time to list the current system and add some photo's. It is interesting as I have gone up and down the spectrum and I think that I never ceased to be amazed how good - starter systems can sound in relation to higher end systems - mainly given the price vs potential equation. The laws of diminishing returns was thought up by someone who was clearly into his music and the pursuit of great sound!

It's not rose tinted specs either - a true high resolution medium before anybody really realised what it meant

Well here it is as it stands now. I am just in the process of radically changing it. Hopefully tomorrow I can completely re-assemble with the new stuff that I have been tinkering with for some time.

So the till tomorrow is not in jest.

Although you have to say that it is beautifully constructed, sounds ok and seems to work really well with 63's!

Sadly though just in the process of dismantling and putting in the replacement item - photo's to follow later

well after tearing down the previous equipment and racks it's taken best part of day to rebuild with new stuff and make it at least reasonably tidy:scratch:

just listening to some albums and it's getting better as it warms up and settles down (didn't realise I had so many boxes though - scary!!)
