Got myself a pair of Grado PS500 headphones and they are amazing... Seriously recommend them to everyone.

They have amazing levels of detail, whilst a sweet and not too bright treble and stupid levels of bass.

Paul.

Hi Paul

I like Grado 'phones, too. I have a pair of 325i - and I hugely upgraded the sound by replacing the ear cushions with those designed for the top of the range 1000 series.

The soundstage just exploded outwards and really opened up. And they are vastly more cumfy as well as they don't touch the ear at all but fit around it.

Well worth a try! :)

Thanks for the heads up on the bigger cushions. I've heard they make a significant difference so might have to give them a go... Although I am seriously impressed with the PS500 out of the box... I compared them to the 325is which were good but very bright in comparison... The PS500 started life out at £750 but recently they were reduced to £599 which is a bargain, and I managed them for £540 at the Audio Show in Brighton :)

Yes, I agree with the 325i being bright - I reckon there's a 4dB treble boost - luckily I power them thru a Sony 1000ESD pre/equaliser which is why I know that a 4dB treble cut (starting around 4KHz) makes them sound nice and neutral!
Similar for a pair of Grado 125i 'phones I recently bought for a 2nd system.

Interesting result --. the 125i with large (GS1000 type) ear cushions sound better than a 325i with standard ear cushions! They really make a major difference.
