Gyro blog day four; l think l have a little handle as to how this T/T sounds, very musical, fluid and very natural sound, surface noise is very low, the top end is very sweet, never gets naughty, the soundstage is very open, with superb image of depth and everything in general really:), images are very large, and with good tonal colours ( l am a freak for this), it plays all genres of music very well indeed, so far so good!

Nice pics, Andy, and I'm glad that you're enjoying your Gyrodec! :)

Just one little quick tip with your DL-103 - lose (what looks like) those cheapo aluminium mounting screws and get yourself some high-quality stainless-steel Allen bolts, like these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370795123078?_trksid=p2055120.m1438.l2649&var=640077685946&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Trust me, they will make all the difference, and you'll hear a noticeable improvement for only a few pounds outlay!

Or, you could go for one of these and 'kill two birds', in terms of adding a bit more mass (which the 103 likes) to your arm, as well as obtaining some quality Allen bolts at the same time: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ISOkinetik-CARTRIDGE-STABILISER-FOR-DENON-103-DL-103R-/181107699574?pt=Turntable_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a2adc2f76

If you want to hear more of your 103's potential, the Isokinetik will help you achieve that at low cost. You should definitely give it a go.

Marco.

Gyrodec blog day 21; Really enjoying this deck! Played 'Electric' by the Cult yesterday:eek: B'Jesus Ian Astbury and the band were 6' away, a big and expansive sound that bopped along in a most satisfying manner, this deck just gets out of the way and lets you play music.:guitar: Some olden and beat up records now have a new lease of life as surface noise and damage are pushed out of the way so music can come to the fore, very happy.:):)

Worth getting a Never Connected PSU (if you haven't got one already, I think Gromit had one?) - it takes the Dino up a step or 5, imo. :)

A bigger cartridge than a DL-103?
What.........like an 8 track or something?! I think it may be tricky to mount one of those without some sort of adaptor.

Didn't know they made a fanboi edition for our mighty leader?

But on a more serious note; Do you use any viscous damping in the trough on the SME V?
I havent tried that yet, but im curious!

I had a Gyro SE once, lovely deck.. never forget it.

upgraded it with the Delrin bearing too which was a great update. Also the black tacky dampening stuff for inside the frame and inside the suspension covers... Great little upgrades!

Some say that the deck sounds better without the suspension covers... I thought it didn't make a big enough upgrade and it ruined the looks. But, give that a go too! :)

Yes they do it is slightly more vertically challenged than other cartridges in the Benz range.:)
