I've just seen an advert for a 'DUAL CS 505-3 (LASKY'S ELITE) TURNTABLE' on a well known action site, is it really any different from a standard 505-3?

Thanks in advance for any info.

My guess would be that it is the same as the Audiophile Concept version which I owned for a while. A friend of mine still runs one although he rarely uses it but it is not a bad deck for under a ton. A Technics SL1200 smokes it, though. This is the 505-3 'Concept':

Thanks Martin, so just cosmetic differences compared to standard deck?

It has the wood plinth that was available on the slightly higher priced version. Apart from that, the mechanics were identical. They did sound rather better than the standard (rather cheap and nasty, I thought) plinth.

Still not really a particularly stunning deck though.

Thanks Chris, i'm looking at that deck and a Rega Planar 2, i know the Rega is the better deck though.
I've not played vinyl since the early 90's, i moved over to CD and now most of my music is on my PC. I have just a handful of vinyl albums stored away from my original collection that ran into hundreds, and i've got this irrational urge to buy a budget deck and amp.......It might wear off after i've taken my medication!

Well I just picked up a Technics SL6 for under 70 notes that would do the job of playing your handful of albums quite well. Check out eBay for an SL5 or 6 or 7 - It's just like using a cd player you put the record in, close the lid and press play - no muss, no fuss :)

Cheers Martin, i've also spotted a Thorens 145 MK2 at a reasonable price.
