Wow! very nice. I particularly like your very original speaker stands.

Ta Steve. They are made from driftwood and were supposed to be columns for lamps. Found them in Holland; an interesting journey through customs! They weigh as much as the speakers, about 40kg, so experimenting with speaker positioning is a planned event. :steam: We thought the speakers were so unusual that we should do them justice and their support had to be very strong and stable. An added bonus is that they act as a baffle extension to the floor while the cabinets are so rigid that they don't need air under them. Hi WAF factor! :smoking:

If I had to choose between RDC cones and corks I would go for corks every time. They can be a bit expensive for what they are but you get a free bottle of wine with them!

Hi Steve,

Nice system - and I like the 'vibe' of the room, too :smoking:

When did you get your TD valve amp and from whom? I didn't realise that Anthony had modified another Yaqin.

Marco.

Hi Marco,

I bought the Yaqin late 2007 from Richton Audio via fleabay. No problem for almost a year, very impressed, first valve amp and all. I changed one KT88 mainly to see how it's done and within 2 days I suddenly owned an indoor barbeque! Searching for someone to investigate and repair I found Anthony via posts on AOS, shipped the amp to him for analysis and discussed the possibilities for repair and upgrade.

I had bought the Mapletree preamp and was using it through the front inputs of the Yaqin as instructed. Anthony surprised me when he stated that this input was only reducing the signal, not bypassing the internal preamp, so it was a no-brainer to take his advice and convert to the dual-mono power amp only. I think the mods were similar to those described here - remove all preamp organs, change valves, etc, but I'd let Anthony confirm the final spec. The transformers were left as the originals.

One surprise for both of us; Anthony gave all the warnings regarding unsuitability for UK mains and fire risks, especially as I had experienced a wee bit of internal combustion, but on testing he found that my example was actually measuring OK, the first he had seen, so no step down transformer was required. I had run the amp constantly for such a long time without a problem, Yaqin do make their own transformers in-house and possibly if you buy through Richton Audio it is possible to get a perfectly safe, UK spec'd model.

Sorry, the answer to your question - I received the modded amp back February this year.
