Just invested in a Mac mini & Bushmaster DAC so time to flog "ye olde CDP."
This is the lesser spotted SL-P720 from the same generation as the SL-P1000/SL-P1200 [not the later models which are poo.] Loads of info here (http://audio-database.com/TechnicsPanasonic/player/sl-p720-e.html) but I can tell you its a very decent player that shares most of its innards with the SL-P1000/SL-P1200 [all from the laser to the DAC and everything inbetween is the same] Only the PSU & analogue output stage are different. Its very solidly built with Technics "THCB" vibration proof base, bitumen damped panels and that 80's Japanese built feel of quality.
Its not quite stock... I've cleaned & lubed the laser / transport, it reads TOC in milliseconds & track access is lightening fast. I've pulled & hand tested every capacitor in the player & replaced those out of spec with good quality replacements... It now has oversized Rubycon's in the digital Power supply & Elna Cerafine's in the analogue power supply, Panasonic NHG/Elna Silmic & Nichicon Fine Gold in the digital/servo circuits, Elna Cerafine for the DAC power supply, solid tantalums for the Class AA IC power supply, polystyrene's in the feedback circuit, output parallel ceramics removed and all coupling capacitors have been replaced with jumpers.... Headphone output has been disabled & all opamps have been replaced with socketed LM4562.
IMO it now sounds "da bomb!" These tend to sell on eBay for around £50... I'll take £40 'cos I'm nice like that.
