Very useful and cheap way (approx £3) of isolating the noisy usb supply from your PC and replacing it with your own clean linear or battery supply

http://www.streakwave.com/Itemdesc.asp?ic=5VUSB

I use an Ankaka battery with my BM2 and power my Hiface 2 usb-spdif via this power injector from the clean 5v usb from the Ankaka. But any clean 5v supply

can be used (linear or battery) with a suitable 2.1mm power cable.

Had to get mine from Germany and it cost me 4 times as much in postage:eek:,but if you wan't one have a mooch around as they were for sale on Amazon although currently out of stock

Soundwise my system seems to benefit in the retrival of tiny details which clean power brings and as an aside i,ve just done Stans new BM2 firmware mod which is a significant step up in sq and i feel deserves a mention.WELL DONE SIR!

Humble apologies mods for posting twice, newbie error.

Hi Martin, very interesting stuff, I'd like to implement this in my budget kitchen set-up...

SBTouch (EDO)/HiFimeDIY USB U2 DAC & Isolator/Mini-1/Mission 780SEs

Do you have a link to the battery you're using?

I've already sourced a 2.1mm/USB power cable...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007BPQJSY/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

...I suppose it depends on the battery end connection

Cheers,

Will

Hi Will.

http://www.ankaka.com/incredible-20000mah-battery-charger-universal-portable-battery_p409.html

Its not cheap but it will run your SB touch as well and then you can bin your isolator as battery power is sooooooo much nicer, it takes about a month to get here though. There may be a cheaper 5v alternative closer to home, but that wouldn't power both Any ideas anyone:?

Have aread of some of the posts herehttp://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?29633-Battery-Power-for-Touch-and-BM2&highlight=touch+battery and see how much the other touch users rate this battery, albeit most use it with a Beresford BM2

I've also got one of those U2 async dacs doing the spdif coversion and i like it so much i've just sold my Hiface 2, it's incredible value for money and that Sabre chip is excellent at digging out detail.

The cable you've sourced looks identical to mine, but i've adapted mine into a 5m one so i can have the noisy pc in the back room.

Hope you find this helpful.

Martin

I am going to try the U2 asynch with the bushmaster to see what I get with MQn

Sounds awful nice from Foobar or Jriver with Jplay5.2, yet to try MQn as it sounds a little too "teckie" for me, and i've just changed all my files to PCM,
but hopefully someone nice will post a less technobabble walkthrough on here.

Be interested to hear your results though.

Only problem i have with the U2-BM2 is with crackling on 24-96 pcm files and on pc startup -so i turn BM on after pc has booted up .I'm still trying to 'suss it.. Maybe lack of caps in the signal chain of both devices? but what do i know:mental:Suggestions on a postcard please or a sealed down envelope.:D

...buffer settings perhaps? make them large if you have any option to do so

Hi Will,
Thanks for the suggestion.

I've tried some very large buffer settings and different drivers all to no avail, strangely though flac and alac play with no problem so it maybe the amount of data(PCM files are nearly twice the size of compressed formats) i'm trying to squeeze down the optic fibre as i believe optical has a limit of 24-96.

I really don't own a lot of hi-res music yet so i'm happy with the 16-44 performance at the moment but it would be nice to solve it for futureproofing

Hi Martin, not being a Foobar user I'm afraid I can't point you at the buffer settings, but I had similar issues with Winamp, with ASIO on XP, and WASAPI on 7 for 24/96...although I was only messing around with the FFSoX upsampler, as all my stuff is red book 16/44.1.

24/96 is about 3 times the data throughput of 16/44.1, so upping the player priority, and setting buffers (ASIO or WASAPI) to a maximum value worked for me with Winamp

Thanks for that, i'll give it a try.

Mqn is my view a lot better than Jplay Over the last few months it has really moved on. I let your know my thoughts in my system as soon as I get everything plumbed in

Try MQn SSE2 R2.31....it's ticked a lot of boxes for me. It does hirez too. Some later versions from today don't do hirez yet. I've not tried them but I know that SSE2 R2.31 is mega.

I'll look forward to that as i think i've got a geeky friend of mine convinced he needs to set it up on my system.
