For sale, a pair of 12in Tannoy Monitor Gold drivers. These are very early Golds (from the serial numbers, 1966-67) and share the voice coil with the late Reds indeed the previous owner ran them with Red crossovers - other than the impedance (being a more modern 8 ohms rather than the older Reds 16 ohms) these early 12in Golds are very similar to 12in Reds.
Of course they also have the hard fabric binding of Tannoy Blacks, Silvers, Reds and 'proper' Golds (which never needs re-foaming or replacing) as opposed to the the 'Tannoplas' rubber surrounds of later 12in Golds which are halfway to HPDs. Essentially these early ones with the Red-type voice coil and hard fabric suspension are widely regarded as the 'best' 12in Golds to have.
They are in all original condition - magnets, baskets, cones and voice coils - though the eagle-eyed will notice one of the 4-pin connector sockets was recently replaced (by John Caswell) with an original and correct Tannoy NOS one, but positioned on the outside of the basket to avoid any risk to the cone (this is commonly also done by the Tannoy experts, Lockwoods, when replacing damaged sockets).
I got these for something of a bargain so I'm going to sell them on for what I paid which is £850. No crossovers but of course for any serious project you are betting having some built anyway as all the 1960s originals are well out of spec by now. I can provide a pair of Tannoy 4-pin plugs wired up to two lengths of cable if required, for attaching to a in internal crossover or to external speaker sockets if using them with external crossovers.
Collection only from Bracknell area or meet-up M3/M4/M25/M40/A34 as I'm not trusting these increasingly rare and fragile beauties to the depredations of Parcelfarce or UPS.
