Pioneer???

My HiFi journey has taken some twists of late. It all started when wifey put a finger through one of my old Celestion DL 6 speakers, since then it has been new speakers, amps, CD players, turntables, cartridges, and phono stages. After being given a turntable, which turned out to be quite a nice Luxman, I have flirted with vintage HiFi which has led me to, finally, Pioneer. I will admit to an element of snobbery, Pioneer, surely this is just budget stuff? Well actually I think not. I started with two vintage pioneer amps - the latter of the two, sounded fantastic, and with all that shiny metal and VU meters looked great too. Replaced with an A30 which I think sounds at least as good as my old Musical Fidelity XA1 I have just acquired a PD D6 CD player which I think sounds better, more musical, than both my Audiolab 8000 cd plyer and my little dot CDP and DAC. I am happy to admit I am a Pioneer fan. Just thought I would share. Would welcome any thoughts.

Pioneer have always made some fantastic stuff. Their budget gear was very decent and their top end equipment amongst the best. Check out Pioneer's professional equipment too, it's superb. Look at this lot, especially the speakers: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Professional

Alongside my Meridian 507, I use a Pioneer PD-S505 Precision CD player as a transport and it sounds lovely. That's the one modified to Tom Evans spec for the British market. They are so good, I've bought a spare, boxed one just in case, but they have a reputation for reliability anyway.

Yes, like Pioneer gear. Got a couple of their CDPs, one multiplay that cost me £2.20 off ebay & one of their stable platter jobbies, both more than 20 years old & both still working well.

My little star is a PL-112D for £40 off ebay again, didn't even need a new belt!

Well a quick update, I have been so impressed with the PD D6 I have purchased the matching A A6 amp. The combination to my ears sounds superb. How is it I have ignored Pioneer all these years... foolish, so foolish!

Have to agree about Pioneer. I too have a Pl112D and very nice it is too (mine only cost me £39 on eBay:ner:). We have an A757 (I think) power amp that weighs a ton and sounds fantastic plus a CD stable platter thingie that sits in the main system - see off all comers.

I missed out on Pioneer when we were all going through the 'only UK stuff is any good' rubbish in the 80s/90s but am pleased to have discovered my mistake.

Last year I bought a Pioneer PD-10K SACD player which is very definitely at the budget end of their range and within a year it has gone 'pop' and packed in so I honestly cannot say I am impressed with Pioneer. To replace it I now have a Marantz CD6005 CD player which, compared to the Pioneer, is a serious level up especially where weight is concerned.
