Hi, a rather belated greeting from me.
I found your motley crew while rekindling my interest in music and hi fi after a rather long interruption due to children taking up all of my time and even more of my money!
Before 12 years spent traveling round the country every weekend for my son to race karts, only for him to 'grow' up and become a rugby forward I was into car hi fi in quite a big way. I ended up with a complete Nakamichi system which sounded stunning, to my ears anyway. Now I'm getting that bit older, my ears don't seem to work quite as well as they did so the search is on to find a sound that works for me and makes me want to play and enjoy music rather than listen to the system that it's playing on.
The current system comprises of a Radford sta15 amp, Audionote zero preamp, Pioneer pds 901 cd player, [found in a charity shop, complete with remote, manual and a set of Audioquest interconnects for£30!] with a pair of Epos es14 speakers. A Bushmaster takes care of the headphone side of things. On the vinyl front I'm currently looking to replace my Project Carbon Esprit and Cambridge 651 phono stage with some much higher spec/cost equipment. Actually with the exception of the Radford, everything will probably be changed at some point soon as half the fun is in trying different gear.
I'm not one for saying much unless it's on a subject I know a lot about, so you will have to forgive me if I 'lurk' more than I contribute for the time being. Or it could be that I really am the grumpy old sod that my kids think I am! On the other hand if there is anyone who needs advice on how to set up a front running Kart then I might be able help!

Anyway thanks in advance for what I am sure will be many hours of entertaining and informative reading over the coming months and years.

Hi John

Music these days is pretty much anything except Heavy metal! All of my listening these days is done after 9 at night so by then I'm more ready for something smooth and/or simple, Jill Scott or Boz Scaggs seem to be the go to artists at the moment along with the likes of Bob James, Donald Byrd and others of that smooth Jazz style.

All a step away, but a logical one I think, from my musical youth when I was a diehard Soul boy. Most Friday mornings in the mid 70s were spent standing at junction 3 of the M3 with my thumb out trying to get lifts up to Wigan for the all nighters at the Casino. If it wasn't Soul or Funk in those days it didn't get much of a look in.

Now a days I'll give anything well made or real, as opposed to manufactured pop, a listen in the hope of finding something new to enjoy.

Welcome to the AoS from me Peter, you'll find lots of like minded people on here, I have a similar taste in music, I prefer late night listening with a beer and some vinyl, the Twisted Wheel all nighters was my bag in the 70's, dancing 'til 7am Sunday morning, now I can't make it to the end of a record:lol:

Hi Pete and welcome. Fond memories of the A/N pre amp, such great value and sound especially as you can pick one up for a snip 2nd hand ( relatively) My A/N meishu really flying now Ive put some isolation pieces under it ( harmonic resolution systems) .Enjoy!

Hi Al, never made it to the Twisted Wheel but heard lots of good things about it. As for not making it to the end of the record, I've don't even try to get up anymore!

Brian, the Audionote was new in an unopened box, bought last year just to get the Radford up and running after it had sat in the spare room unused for 25years. As you say great value and I really like the sound with the Pioneer cd player. Not so much on the vinyl side of things, but hopefully an upgrade to a Garrard 301 with a better phono stage will sort it out.
