Gentlemen, after much consideration and deliberation, I have decided to sell my beloved Ortofon ST-80SE moving-coil step-up transformer.

Having now compared it at length to my Paul Hynes MC head amp, and marginally preferring the latter in my system, it's best that the Ortofon goes to a deserving new home, where it will be appreciated by someone else. This unit was bought new from Hi-fi Sound, in Stockton-on-Tees, in 2012. Some pics:

This unit would be ideal for anyone looking for a top-notch SUT to use with virtually any high-end low-output MC cartridge, through a MM phono stage (preferably valve), especially an Ortofon SPU. However, I have heard the ST-80SE with a number of high-quality MCs, and in particular Martin T's superb Shelter 5000, where the sound produced was simply sensational! :eek:

Anyway, in keeping with my usual policy of offering members bargain prices on items I'm selling, I'm putting this superb SUT up for sale at HALF of what it cost me (£1200), and which is also 50% less than it is to buy new from most outlets, so that's ONLY £600!! As far as I know, this is the cheapest that one of these units has EVER been sold for....

You will require a Size 4 trunnion grommet before attempting this! Once you have establish the angle of dangle, align the grommet on axis and press the green button!

Yesterday I endured Ikea for another 8 Bay Expedite unit , Having a well overdue tidy up and re organize
The new unit is built and fitted with the storage draws , leaving me 8 empty bays for more LP's :)
Off food shopping soon , Then need to pack a parcel and post it , !!! Hopefully !!! I will do it later ;) ( I have found some earth wire )

Need a tidy up as well , see if I can find that thing called a vacuum cleaner :D As I have my eldest round tonight for dinner and a guest from WW Tuesday evening too listen too my Electrostatics

Hehehe... Well done! Now we're just waiting on your report on how it sounds - specifically on how the built-in MM valve phono stage in your Croft, in conjunction with the ST-80SE, compares with the Arkless-modified Cambridge Audio active MC stage.

A seperate thread outlining your thoughts, started in Analogue Art, would be appreciated :)

P.S Make sure that the earth wire going from the ground terminal on the SUT, together with the one on your tonearm cable, are fixed to the same earth point on your preamp, otherwise you may create an earth loop, and get hum.

When I am feeling ( and hearing better ) I will have a proper listen ;)
