Today IS Shelter day !

I have owned this shelter cartridge for a while now ( 28-10-13 ) it's been sitting on the rack looking at me :)

So today I decided too change over from the Goldring Eroica-L

Components used are as follows

Shelter 5000
Origin Live Encounter MK3c arm
My Technics TT
Into the Arkless Turbo 640p
Into the Albery AP4 via the Aux
Out of the AP4 into the Sony TAN-7B Vfet amp
Through to the Ram 400's Via Kelsey Power Line speaker cables

I can confirm the Shelter 5000 is up there , Very detailed sound , It's a lot heavier cartridge than the Eroca
I had to make big adjustments too the tracking weight as it was tracking on the scales at 23 grams :eek:

Current listening ( Oleta Adams ) sounds sublime . Love it

Will hook it up too the Quads and the Croft 25 , through too the 57's and 63's soon ;)

I did have trouble installing the cartridge on the arm as it does not have parallel sides to line up on the protractor , still not sure its correct :scratch: , any advice on this ?

Martin T's got a lot of experience with that cartridge, dude. I agree that it is superb - one of the best modern MCs I've heard! :)

Btw, keep an eye on the Private Exhibitions section soon (possibly tomorrow), as I'll be advertising for sale a little thing you might be interested in, which would facilitate what we discussed at Scalford, in terms of using the (superb) in-built valve MM phono stage inside your Croft preamp (which at the moment you're bypassing, to use the Arkless-modded Cambridge, externally) in conjunction with a quality MC step-up transformer.... ;)

Never had a good listen to a Shelter. I'd like to hear one properly. I nearly bought a 501 a few years back, but opted to go for a ZYX instead.

I've been looking for secret messages hidden in the capitals but I can't find any so have come to the conclusion that they are both just barking mad. Consequently they fit in here quite well.

You have to remember that you're dealing with a daftee and a double-daftee, so virtually anything is possible! :eyebrows:
