HELP NEEDED - QUAD II Valve Amps

I have been offered the following for £650

x2 Quad II valve amps
all the cabling
x1 pre amp unit
x2 FM tuner units
x2 quad manuals

The valve amps work but need a new set of valves. Both Quad II amps show some signs of corrosion which could probably been cleaned up but the preamp unit has button missing and is probably in need of a few hundred quid spending on it.

What do you think?? Is it worth it or should I try and barter down a bit further??

Sounds like a good price to me... Depends if you like the sound of the Quad II's... IMO I'd sell the pre and tuner.

Nice find , however they will need rebuilding at a cost of around £150 upwards each
I have just purchased a quad set of EF86's and KT66's at a cost of £320

x1 pre amp unit , Do you need this ?
x2 FM tuner units Not much interest in these now ?
x2 quad manuals interesting read


If you are buying just for the Quads I would barter fairly enthusiastically based on the above costs

Agreed, the II's make a lovely conversation piece and sound delightful, if rather coloured by the best of today's standards.

The preamp was hideously veiled - and I had a good one, losing all sorts of things going on in the background. The II's are what really matters IMO.

I would probably have to get the Quads converted to IEC sockets and run the Quads through the Radford PRE.

Buy a Radford STA15 instead to go with your STA25. By the time you revalve the Quads, you may as well buy a STA15

TBH I've done the maths and decided my money is spent improving what I have, so I bought a Bushmaster II DAC + anaka battery supply for my TEAC VRDS 25x :D. And I've still got £350 left over.
