Im a long time vinyl and hifi nutcase, currently a refugee from PFM etc as I dont like to read flatearthlinnnaim marketing that hasnt moved on from The Flat response/hi fi review hegemony of cobblers (IMHO)


previous analogue front end kit over the ears:



Various Direct Drives in the seventies
Linn LP12's (I upgraded by putting a hammer thru it)
Revolver TT...nice cheap mdf....
Gyrodec
Voyds (royal pains to set up, but blasted the Linn into oblivion)
Notts Mentor (lovely had it for years...now gone to the iron platter rust pile)

etc etc

current TT and arms etc:

Acoustic Solid royal...extreme chrome version (I wish it was sandblasted.....)

Gray Mechanic
Denon DL103r, Zu 103, SPU
various Decca Super Golds and Ikeda 9


Best system heard:

In 1989...

Mick Gray high massTurntable, Mission Mechanic, Decca Garrott super duper gold
ARC Sp8, Mission 777, Arcams....

this was the most awesome sounding stereo I have ever heard...never bettered by anything I have ever heard.....ever....er, possibly

Nice list of TT's. I especially like the Voyd TTs...I used to own a Valdi, and your right placing the belt on two motors is a a pain and on three ummmmERRR! not easy.

Whats the rest of your system ? Maybe you might like to put some photos of your set up in the Gallery.

What kind of music do you like?

On AOS we use first names, so could you put your name in your sig and also a location. Its these little things which make this a warm friendly place and allow us to feel like we are talking to real people. Thank you in advance.

well, I enjoy electronic music, punk, rock - especially KrautRock, some jazz, classical, folk...you name it,,,,,I have around 6000 lps and about 1200 cds from around 40 years of music collecting

current hifi (as above plus..)

Audio Innovations L1
Naim CD5i
MF Xa 200 monos
Jecklin floats
Audio Technica electrets

No speakers in use at the moment due to house move and smaller listening environment, but have used quad, sonus fabers, arcam delta IIs...

other kit upstairs awaiting fiddling:

AI 1000 monos.....they kept exploding....
ARC SP8, and SP10...both need service
Kelvin labs integrated (lovely....wonderful class a...)
Rose RV23
etc

as for the Voyd....when it was set up properly, it was very great

Very nice kit.

The AI1000 are worth fixing IMHO. I have a set of mk3s and when hooked up to a really good pre they really sing. The Jecklins are good HP's...even though you look a bit daft wearing them. I used to have a set of ERGO 1's on loan, nice but my wife would laugh at me when I was wearing them.

You have some nice ARC kit thats worth getting fixed. Whats the RoseRV23 like...I read a lot about them back in the early 90's but never heard any...is it good?

RV23 is nice, a bit coloured and runs out of steam when pushed loud, but has/had the typical tube pre qualities
