Which/what sort of interconnect would sound best between Croft pre and power? :hmm:
Should DNM solidcore do the trick?

When I had Croft, I used (I'm still using them with my current set) Mark Grant HD1500, nice and you won't need another mortgage for them.

Hi Han,

Pretty much anything of decent quality wlll do. I use Mark Grant G2000HDs between my Croft preamp and my TD power amp. Details here: http://markgrantcables.co.uk/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=43_1&products_id=273

Those are superb, outperforming many much more expensive cables, and Mark is a really nice guy to deal with :)

Yup.. I use the 1500's too... And Mark is superb!

I too will be looking to upgrade to the HD2000's with the WBT Ag's later this year.

I too have Mark Grant interconnects between my Croft Micro 25 and Series 7 - only HD1000s in my case, but they perform excellently. You can't really go wrong with Mark Grant cables...

Seem to be a lot of MarkGrant interconnect fans here on AoS :)
Sorry, but here in Holland the brand is not very well known.

On the site it read that the cable itself is copper solidcore with screening;
and it has crimped(like that) Canare connectors(HD1000)

So (screened) solidcore seems to work OK between the Croft pre/power.
Or......maybe not valid in general?

Ah yes, and the length of IC? > how long should it be? (can the pre and power be stacked in use?)

Pre/power can be stacked but as with all valve amps, a little heat is generated so for ventilation best to separate them a little. Length doesn't matter but good advice is to buy a little longer than you may think you need as this allows flexibility for future changes and reduced bend radius and stress on joints rather than using ultra short pairs. You wont suffer any degradation in sound quality by going slightly longer....none at all.

You're probably more familiar with Van den Hul, Han! :eyebrows:

MG cables are simply 'no nonsense', great value, high-quality copper cables, hand-assembled in Britain by someone who genuinely cares about the quality of his products. They can also notably outperform some rather more expensive 'exotic' high-end brands from 'famous names'!! ;)

Incidentally, Paul (Reffc) also does some superb cables, but is too modest to say so, LOL! Therefore, check out the range of interconnects on his website, too.... :)

I've not tried Pauls cables as yet but I've heard nothing but good things about them.

I use RFC Pluto's and Mercurys in my system, best cables I have had.

Unless you have the budget to do both, I would recommend sorting out a set of nice NOS valves for your amps before you worry about fancy interconnects.

But....before I can listen to anything > I do need an interconnect between pre and power ;)
And....I am absolutely not searching for a fancy ic, just interested in what Croft users have.
(For example I do like the construction of the MG (screened solidcore copper) for 50 pounds :D)

Tuberolling is another matter and probably should be posted in a different subforum?
Thx for all the comments for now! Han

Sorry Han. Just that looking up the price of some of the "great value" interconnects recommended here made me blink a bit.

+1 for the reference Pluto - best interconnects I've ever heard between my Croft 25R/S4s - also use a pair between BM2 and 25R

Why doesn't Mr Croft provide a simple, but good enough sounding interconnect for use between all his components. :D
Probably his internal wiring in the amps is also selected for the purpose and also for good sound.

Interconnects can make quite a difference in soundquality and balance.
Would be nice to be able to buy a well voiced Croft IC, specially for use between his own components.
Could be a rebranded, but Croft selected, approved and named IC, or...........

Well just wondering...................:)

I don't think any amp manufacturers do this, do they?
I've agonised a lot over cables over the years, and now just use the cheapest i can find with high quality, well fitted plugs and good screening. I'm sure the £50 one you mentioned in your first post would be absolutely fine.
I don't think any interconnect will have the ability to "voice" your amps unless it has ridiculously high capacitance or inductance.

Hi John, but I do know at least 1 UK manufacturer that went from phonoamps, headamps to monoblocks and now also can provide all the cabling (his own selected and manufactured) you need >> and that's.....
...Graham Slee Products; I did own 3 very good different phonoamps from him before I got the all-in-one-box LFD amp.
Also used one of his (first) interconnects for a few years :)

Well it was just a thought as I mentioned before, I will find a good enough IC when the action is needed(first Integrated!) Han

ANY carefully made screened cable should be suitable if the length is around 1m. Differences between them are really tiny in the real-world out there away from super-sensitive ears 'tuned' for the tiniest things.

Having said that, The MG HD1000 isn't silly money, the plugs are more than good enough for the sockets Glenn fits and if you buy a set of these and want to upgrade to posher looking plugs, I believe Mark is generous on trading your existing lead back against a posher one.

As for tube rolling, Glenn uses few valves in current models, unless you go right up the range, but you may be able to subtly fine tune the sonic balance should you wish to.

Dave, you have a fine record of talking perfect sense, but I have to respectfully disagree with your last comment. I've found that the gains to be had by replacing the stock valves with good NOS ones are quite significant (using "significant" in the hifi sense of course :)).

Mark really does make a superb cable, the finish of all his cables are truly the best... and i can also confirm he is a super person to deal with

If you are feeling flush then his Oyaide FTVS-510 Silver cables are superb too..http://markgrantcables.co.uk/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=43_1&products_id=368... even though they are a bit more expensive I can vouch for their quality and sound.. and they STILL represent good value

Highly recommended...
