Took out the Sound Cords, put in the Belkin things that were all the rage a year or two back, and had to crank up the volume loads to achieve a similar level, why?

The Belkins are attenuating the signal, which is not necessarily a good thing.

So it's not black magic then? :eyebrows:
How do they manage that though without an attenuator then?

The cables themselves are attenuators.
All an attenuator is is a resistance placed in the signal chain, making the signal smaller.
Personally I'd bin the cables ;)
Hmmm... I'm using a 'full loom' of these cables at the moment and I can't say I have had the same issue. Could be some sort of unwanted interaction with the amplifier? I'll swap them out a bit later and see if there is a difference in level.
