View Full Version : Example of an incorrect sized stylus being used to play a vinyl LP
Obviously a conical tip, but the tip radius is far too large for the groove width.

No doubt it produces a nice warm, comforting, if a little soft sounding. :eyebrows:
A rub with some green sandpaper will sharpen the sound up nicely.
Azimuth is quite a long way out.
In this case, the VTF (visible Tit Factor) is only 50% of what it should be.

Good to see you keeping abreast of the times, Barry.
I've been trying to identify the record, it could possibly be Thanks For The Mammary... :)
Oooooohhhhh. You've nearly given me heart failure Barry  Not good for my flu-monia - cough!

I can't identify the tit le.
It shows once again the attraction of the Technics turntables. If this was shown on a Linn forum there would be too much Wow and Flutter.
Oh and by the way Barry, if you need some help in adjusting azimuth and VTA I would be happy to help. No, really, no problem at all. Actually I insist!
Bound to go tits up at some stage
Call me OCD but I'd love to get that on my ultrasonic cleaner's pad, with a little wetting of AT637 of course.

For some unaccountable reason, I didn't pay too much attention to the actual turntable. If it is a Technics, then maybe Marco knows who the lady might be? It's possible it might be Tabatha, who, as members may know, has a unique way of cleaning LPs.

????????? Now to those of us who don't know, that requires some explanation.

That's understandable ... you were distracted by the record.
Edit: The lady's name wouldn't be Norma Stits by any chance?

Well, as far as I can recall, it all started here (http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?7719-A-big-hello-from-John7) when a new member (john7) joined AoS.
Things developed later.......to this (http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?10244-RCM-usres-2-questions&p=198029#post198029)
A rub with some green sandpaper will sharpen the sound up nicely.
...but also disturb VTA, due to the stiffening of the 'stylus'!
Marco.
