Hello to everyone, i have just joined after a recommendation from a watch forum, (can i cope with another forum)
I have been playing around with HiFi semi seriously for the last few years but have always had an interest in all things to do with "strereo's" from an early age, i went dowm the usual hand-me downs from others in the late seventy's and eighty's including a Rotel reciever and speakers,a Trio amp, akai tape deck and a new purchase in about 1984 of a Luxman D drive turntable which is still kicking about, don't get excited it wasn't there top end one i couldn't afford a Rega Planner at the time so this had to do, i then bought my first Cd player a Philips CD471 in 1986 and thats still in the garage, the ninety's came and went but i went all out and bought a Arcam system, the A75 Plus amplifier and the matching cd72 along with dynaudio 42 speakers and a Project turntable, i still use the cd72 through my av system Onkyo amp B&w satalites and sub, pioneer Plasma,( i don't mix 2 channel with AV anymore) but have sold on the A75 amp, the Dyn speakers i gave to my parents which brings me up to date roughly, i got the Hifi Bug again after meeting a fellow hifi nut in France and have gone out and bought alsorts some good some not so good but still have ended up with a house and garage full, i disscovered valves :dance:and that was it, my current system changes like the wind much to my wifes annoyence as i am still going through that if i change this amp for that amp will it give me a bit more top end or bottom end but i limit myself to second hand stuff and certainly not top end but more of your classic stuff, perhaps if you name a type of common output valve i will try to name the amp that i have or have heard, i use a Micromega duo transport and Dac at the moment through Audionotes basic floor standing speakers, on the vinal front i have an AR turmtable Linn arm combo on the go at the moment
Anyway enough of my waffling i hope to gain some sound advice and a fellow nuts:mental:to talk to.

I'm not going to ask you any of those questions! But welcome, anyway.

I spent a long time playing with various examples of the AR turntable and will always have a soft spot for it. A Sussex lad eh? Despite having lived all over the place, I always consider Sussex as my home, having spent most of my school years there & my parents still being there. Glad I never had to buy a house there, though!!

You'll like the AoS, there's a lot of good stuff going on here.

Indeed welcome to AOS glad you decided to join. A watch forum interesting...if I remember right one of our members is into watches but I can't remember who at the (senior) moment. Micromega Duo Dac and transport very nice. I like Micromega, I have a Data and Dialogue which I had restored from being scrappers.

Music Hmm, my tastes are varied i bought most of my vinal all through the 80's so that stuff will always have a soft spot, OMD, Simpleminds, Gary Newman, Human League sort of stuff it's nice to remminiss sometimes,the wife always plays Duran Duran so thats when the tinternet comes in handy, newer stuff well Newton Fulkner was played a lot for a while then i moved onto Sea Sick Steve done that to death a bit now so i go for a mix of Bens Brother, Poalo Nutini James Morroson and Cat Stevens when i'm in company, i try and slide in Fleet Foxes and a bit of Bon Ivor before the boring moans put a stop to it, John Lee Hooker, Joe Bonamassa and Kings of Leon :) go for a spin when i have some time to myself, but that leaves my Ipod (is that a swearword around here) which has stuff like Antony and the Johnsons, Davindra Banhart, Diana Krall and Imelda May and The Three Daft Monkeys to name a few on it, but i still love to play Frank Sinatra which everyone has to have in there collection i have even been known to play some old recordings of Jim Reeves or is that a bit too sad:scratch: so as you can see i'm all over the place, the only thing i don't do much of is classical.

Ah that road between me and you well worth a drive along to miss the Shoreham Flyover Traffic , Sunny Steyning a lovely little town if you can afford it ?(only kidding), i feel a sound off or a natter some day if your interested, i'm always interested in different sounds from other systems to compare notes to

My parents live in Steyning still, but I'm a long way off nowadays (as I hinted at in my first post on this thread). I live in North Lincs & work in Lancashire, so I have a drive over a different hill (the Pennines) twice a week. I miss the Downs a lot, though.

When I go to visit the folks & see the price of houses in the various estate agents windows in Steyning, I'm so glad I went oop North - I don't know how my old school mates survive. I've often wondered what the family home of said TT/ arm manufacturer must be worth nowadays - that's the only house I know of with a garage that's got central-heating!

Sompting's a nice spot, though.
