I have just rediscovered this, having put it into storage a few years ago:

11722

THE VERVE BOX SET (10 LP 180 GRAM) Limited Edition, Serial # 0426 (out of 500, I think).

The records included in the box are:

MG VS-64043 - Ella Fitzgerald: Let No Man Write My Epitaph
V6-4053 - Ella Fitzgerald: Clap Hands Here Comes Charlie
MG VS-6021 - Billie Holiday: Songs For Distingue Lovers
MG VS-6055 - Duke Ellington & Johnny Hodges: Back To Back
MG VS-6066 - Coleman Hawkins & Ben Webster: Encounters
MG VS-6109 - Duke Ellington & Johnny Hodges: Side By Side
MG VS-6149 Sonny Stitt: Blows The Blues
MG VS-68358 - Johnny Hodges: Blues A-Plenty
V6-8509 - Coleman Hawkins: Alive At The Village Gate
V6-8762 - Bill Evans: At The Montreux Jazz Festival

I bought it in the old Tower Records in New York sixteen years ago and put the box aside while my turntable was serviced. As is the way with things, it has just re-emerged from storage:doh:. I've spent years sniggering at the kind of people who kept their Matchbox cars in their cardboard boxes rather than playing with them and now I find myself a culprit of similar behaviour...:

All the LPs are mint as they have never been taken out of the box, let alone have the seals broken but the box is probably M-.

My natural instinct is to play these beauties but, before I do, does anybody here have any idea what this set is worth? I've looked on Discogs but can't find anything. Google provides a US auction price of $300.00 in 2008.

If it is not especially valuable, I'll do what I'm supposed to do and play the bloody things:lol:! But if the box is worth a king's ransom, I have most of the albums anyway in other versions and if this is seriously valuable I could buy the ones I don't have, and buy myself some nice kit/cartridge etc with the change.

Any thoughts/pointers please?

Thanks

Peter

Stick it on ebay and let the world decide what it worth ;)

I thought of that (or Discogs) but I'm then stuck with setting reserves, listing fees and all that before I have a good idea of what it might be worth. If the box is worth less than a ton or two, I'll just play the blasted things!

Another record pricing site has some more recent sales of this box; in 2011, two were sold at $209 and $300. See:

Aah! Thanks. A site I knew nothing about! $200-$300. Hmm. Well, that won't get me a Bergmann Sindre any time soon - might just have to play them, maybe do a cheeky try out on Discogs first:).
