I am offering my open baffles for sale they cost me about £1300 to build and drive like no other speakers I heard. Before going down the Open baffle route I tried lots of £5000 speakers and I prefer these I would put them up with a lot higher end speakers. The speakers are fast and a great sense of scale you really feel the music hitting you in the stomach.
So why selling
Well time to build something new

Baffles before drivers in place

Baffles with drivers
The baffles have 15" Silver Iris drivers with open back compression tweeter this allows more presence They also have 15" bass drivers
I am willing to let them go on AOS for £700 which in terms of SQ is a absolute bargain The main drivers are pretty sensitive 95.8 db but the bass drivers need a separate plate amp or power amp but can talk you through this if you decide to go for the speakers
Collection only and you more than welcome to hear before you buy in fact I think that is essential as not everyone is going to like this much resolution

John

Some questions if I may, are the base units the Augie's from Hawthorne, and do the base units have to be run from a separate amp or can they be powered from the main power amp, are you using the crossovers from Hawthorne or are they your own design.

Regards

Mike

Hi Mike
Yes their Auggie bass units
You need some kind of seperate power amp that you can control the crossover on the bass (I cut off around 55). Several ways to do this I use a DSP amp that costs about £200 and gives a lot of control over crossover slopes etc and found this much better than using plate amps
Its the updated Hawthorne crossover and the back has been removed from the compression driver that gives more detail and space

No longer for sale
I found out moving to the Radian tweeter will give me the treble I wish whilst keeping the lively sound I get from the PSI so will upgrade the tweeters rather than a different open baffle set up
Sorry but really glad I am no longer selling these as love nearly everything they do

I think that's a good decision, John. I'm glad you're going to be keeping them.

Me to I only regret if I sold them and only have one area where I find them a bit weak (treble) but should be able to sort that out.
Ali lent me a super tweeter and that has made a big difference and been chatting to a guy on Hawthorne forum who has talked me through the Radian tweeter upgrade and what to expect so seems the right way to go

Aye, good stuff John, glad they worked for you. They are only cheapies, so a decent ST should be considerably better.
