What is a sensible price to ask for a Naim 500, fairly sure it's 2007

Demo model then me as owner since 2009

Unmarked and looks new

Naim stuff is different as it holds its value really well, but at the same time as you're dealing with a top end amp, it has top end depreciation too!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NAIM-AUDIO-NAP-500-AND-NAP-500-PS-MINT-CONDITION-/281071981962 went for £7,455. As a rough guide I'd be looking for 60% of the value, which is £10.5K.

And finally... it's a very subjective area! Different people are willing to pay different things.

Thanks.
I'd be delighted to get £10.5k and a bit surprised too. Wouldn't turn anyone down though !
They are far and few between on Ebay to judge a price so I asked here (and there !)

£7455 would be ok so that's my first figure to think about -as well as £10,500
:)

Yeah I think it's a good lower and upper range to be thinking of.

Stuff like this usually plummets in value once it's a few years old, so I'd probably say around £5K for it for a quick sale which is around a third of new price IIRC (other makes at this age get a quarter usually). If someone would give you ten grand for it, I'd be a VERY happy bunny indeed, but seriously, expect a lot less.

If it were me, I'd hope to get a little over half of its new value for a private sale - much less from a dealer though.

I think £10k is unrealistic

£5k sounds way too low so maybe half way £7500 or thereabouts ..............

Hi Mike,

To get the most for your amp, you need to tap into the market of well-heeled Naim fans, on the upgrade path, and looking to maximise on their investment.

pfm would be a good place to sell such an item, but ultimately, I think ebay is your friend.

You need to take some *really* nice pics of your NAP 500 and sell it in an appropriate way, in order to attract the right buyers, starting with a reserve of around £4.5k, to tempt them in, and then let them fight amongst themselves after that, which at the end of the auction will hopefully secure you a sale of around what you're looking for... ;)

Marco.

Thanks Marco

I thought pfm would be a better market place and posted there too.

My 82 left here yesterday courtesy of pfm
:)

I am getting my act together selling kit at last.
Have never sold on Ebay and got the horrors when I saw what was taken in Ebay and PayPal fees

E-Bay is expensive but you can be sure your NAP 500 will be sold in 7 days.

Well maybe.
The other thing I am uncomfortable about is the amount of kit that 'sells' but doesn't get paid for and has to be put back on again.

In my experience of 500 sales - it doesn't happen often. I have had two Vietnam and one Italy non-payers. The main thing to look out for is a reasonable feedback score as my three non-payers had one each, despite me stipulating no less than five.

As for re-listing, that is just one click and it's done. Annoying but not the end of the world.

You can wipe out Paypal fees by stating cash on collection, or bank transfer (for UK buyers), which I suspect is who it would go to. The ebay fees aren't too bad... I'd be confident that even after paying those, you'd still be left with £7k, or so, in your hand at the end of the auction, if you aren't paid via Paypal.

If it doesn't sell here or on pfm, I'd defo recommend ebaying it, and putting a link to your ad on ebay in your advert here, so that AoS Google rankings flag it up on search engines. You could also do the same on pfm, and get double whammy :)

I was going to say avoid eBay if you can Mike , 10% final valuation fee on 7k is erm :mental:

Plenty of Naim fans around on the forums I'm certain .

If you are selling on Ebay you can set up to block low feedback buyers, buyers with bad feedback and those from countries that it is dodgy to post too. Suggest restrict sale to UK and EU. Most other places have wrong voltage anyway.

The favourite to block seems to be Italy

Indeed - 'tis a lot of dosh, *but* it's almost guaranteed to sell. £7k minus 10% is better than nothing, if it doesn't sell... ;)

I'd leave it for sale on the forums for a couple of weeks, then offer a 'last price before it goes onto ebay' offer, and if still no-one bites, get it on ebay.

The other option is that some dealers offer to sell quality used equipment on your behalf, for a small commission fee, which could be more attractive, particularly if they have a large client base of Naim users. I'd give Tom Tom Audio a shout, as the dude there (I forget his name) is cool, and often up what I've suggested :)

He runs The Sound Practice and Tom Tom Audio, Chris. The former is for his more 'specialist' items, for example the Auditorium stuff (A23 SUT, etc) :)
