And another freebie out of my storage unit. On the principle that one man's tut is another's DIY project:lol:, are there any AoSers interested in cannibalising a clapped out Fostex D80 rack unit plus control unit?

They are yours (for collection from NW3 or N8 or for the cost of postage). They look like these stock photos - but they have had a hard life and are in much less good nick:

11707

11706

I know nothing about these units but I gather these were rather good mutlitrack HDD recorders in their day so they must surely have useful parts (there appear to be AD and DA convertors for example) and the case would make a nice housing for a phono stage, power supply or amp.

Please pm if interested.

Another generous offer Peter.
It's an interesting device -a full 18 minutes of recording up to 8 tracks on the 850 Mb hard drive!

Chris,

Yes, it has interesting possibilities, assuming it or bits of it can be made to work!

Used to work quite regularly on one of these, very good machine, really super solid digital multitrack in the 'tape replacement' model (rather than the Digital Audio Workstation model) no latency, really solid remote control and generally excellent construction overall. I can't remember exactly now I think we had one of these and the one after and between them we managed to put quite a lot of storage in them so we had more than 18mins of track time.
